I want to pick up a Korean novel but can't decide between the two above. They seem quite similar in premise with each having a person enter the world of a novella. I read the synopsis of both but that didn't help much. Anyone who read both can point out some major differences, or simply sway me to one or the other?

One wrote the novel and the other is just a reader.

Why not both? It's not like both novel is over 200 chapters released each. TNE is around is around 155 chapters and TotCF is around 50++ chapters

It is interesting you should mention both of these novels since there both novels have a protagonist with a gap between how they see themselves and how everyone else sees them. But to give you an idea of how the series develops:

    Novel's Extra: Anti-hero MC
Trash of the Count's Family: True Hero

If you're going to read just one, read the novels extra, just because it's got more translated. They're both good, so if you can only read one you might as well go for the bigger one.

I personally like Novel's extra better, but both of the novels are really good. Worth reading both in the end.

Both, only the same "premise" being the MC inside a novel, while the main premise for those 2 are different with each other.
TNE: The MC inside his own novel, but with the co-author messing up to be different, and the MC trying to find a way back to his world.
TCF: The MC inside a novel he read, and he's trying to live peaceful life, but troubles come to him instead.

Novel Extra - MC is manipulating the story and controlling it willingly, has cheats. (story is very side character focused)

Trash - MC doesn't want to get too involved in the story and just wants to secure their livelyhood by finding powers that can protect himself but not weaken the "real MC". He ends up changing the story anyways but unwillingly. MC has no cheats. (he has powerful allies instead, but story is MC focused)

the main difference between both novel is their MC mindset...
TNE's MC is actively help the protagonist as the story progress...
its basically like a bonus char which help the hero in the game...

the MC of TotCF in contrast don't really care of protagonist growth...
His main concern is his safety and he don't hesitate to take some power that will be taken by other char in the future for himself if its going to help him...

well, both has its own charm so pick yourself...

TNE is wayyy better. Better writing, better character development, more appealing plot.

Honestly TCF has very one-dimensional supporting characters, and the MC gets too cool too fast. TNE’s MC becomes OP, but his personality is still charmingly dorkish. TNE’s MC is too smooth & slick even if he doesn’t have as many cheats.

Also, TNE’s protagonist makes real mistakes, with actual consequences. If you want a bit of suspense and tension, pick TNE.

I read both, TNE is written better, the side characters are alive and not just there for the sake of head count, BUT TCF is more fun to read, BTW TNE has a more readable MTL comapred to TCF
