A good number of this community seems to have a pretty skewed view on how everything comes together.
Disclaimer: I know some websites use ad revenue share. I do not use that model
    • Translators are paid $3 per chapter. This doesn't happen. Usually, it is per word. The bigger the chapter, the more expensive it costs. The ignorance of this community is also pretty baffling as many translators split a chapter into multiple parts increasing chapter count eg Overlord of Blood and Iron. If I split the chapters, I would be at around chapter 80 now instead of 42.
    • $1.00 CPM. No one makes that much from ad revenue.. well maybe Wuxiaworld does but ad networks have tiers. Google --> Direct Google Reseller> Reseller of Direct Reseller> Reseller of the Reseller...>>>.... You get the picture. Smaller websites usually use third tier ad networks or even lower with means more people have to share the ad revenue
    • Some readers(excluding donors) seem to think translators are their employees. Sorry, they are not. Translators owe you nothing. Stop acting like entitled brats. No one is your slave.
    • Lastly, fix your ignorance. I seem many sites folding with 2 chapters released per month, translators jumping ship since they are not getting paid. I normally have the opposite happen to me: translators jump to my website. I never pretended to be running a charity. They are not sustainable. That is why I laugh when I am compared to a website who released 10 chapters in a day only for the site to disappear a month. Sustainability is most important to me that satisfying the whims of ignorant entitled brats.
I think I made my points pretty well.
I will say this in summary, curtail your expectations, I am saying this to both readers and translators. It will lead to needless frustrations if you have unrealistic expectations of others and yourself.
An advice that I will adhere to myself: rejecting novels like Green Skin since its an Ecchi novel and will be blacklisted from ads.
If you feel like translating a Korean novel I recommend Green Skin

TLDR, you're an asshat for rejecting culturally important novels. :blob_coughblood:

Nah. Someone requested that I translate Green Skin.
It was a warning for myself not to pick up the novel for the most part

I do agree translating is not a charity (although pointing out that charities are not sustainable is strange, since they are literally "charity")

But while what you say is true, you don't come off well saying it. People won't listen to you because your tone will spite them.

This thread will change nothing. The truth is very much unwelcome to the sorts of people you are complaining about. You should get a PR guy.

Fair enough. I am not exactly complaining
Not a big fan of PR too to be honest
Just venting for the most part I suppose
    and holding myself accountable

Well, I had waaaaay lower expectations on the revenue you made than this, translating seems to be more profitable than I thought. Maybe if the day which I end up broke comes I may start translating too.

Do you get account on how many people you push away from visiting your site by these post? I mean isn't it antiadvertisment?
Btw don't take my opinion to your heart, i just antagonize your site since posting mtl (bad quality) of novel i liked and it's kinda ruined my opinion about your site for good.

Meh. We all do it at some point. Guy is running a site in this toxic environment, gotta figure he has to vent.

Can't underestimate PR if you want to grow bigger though. At some point its value, and the damage you can take from frankness, becomes too great to ignore.

Well, you know that already though; you're the guy with a website after all.

Oh I get your point. You are definitely right in a traditional business sense but it doesn't work with this community.
I have tried positive PR, and you get considered as a pushover.
It is okay though, the people on NUF are for the most part not my target audience as I learnt the hard way with novel pick up requests.
You overestimate the reach of NUF.
NU is a whole different beast

IDC, as long as they aren't invassive ads or long ass videos ads that eat my data I will not complain.
I'm happy with my daily fix of chapters...AS LONG AS IT MANTAINS ITS SCHEDULE:blobowoevil::blob_grin:
Not to you but other sites mostly

I do not believe charities work. You dont have to take my word for it, you can listen to an expert in the field:

I prefer social enterprises over charities. My website is a social enterprise: a business that does public good.

Hahaha friend, you must have been living under a rock the past two years.
Then again, I was overly active as I was doing market research before I started my website.
I also run a website and gets 100s of comments every week
    I am not making assumptions

I don't think I mentioned charities in my post at all though?

After all, I don't particularly believe in them either.
