I’m not sure whether this thread belongs in the novel section or the general chat section. If this is the wrong section, I sincerely apologize and am willing to delete this thread and restart in general chat. I’m looking for the title of a series for kids with a Chinese dragon as second MC, I think, published in English. I believe the author is/was Chinese-American. I have a memory that the author’s last name is Yen, but this could be mistaken. I’m afraid I don’t remember much other than at one point they visit an underwater volcano and I think the Monkey King is a recurring character. Basically, I want to get my niece some dragon series books for Xmas, and this is the only one I remember enjoying but can’t remember the title of. If anyone remembers this series, I would be grateful.
Eragon came out when I was a teen. I haven’t read it, so I’m not sure I want to give her something I haven’t vetted myself. I’m looking for a book series, but thank you for the suggestion. ^_^ ???
The Last Dragon Chronicles is a good one The Eragon books are a masterpiece, in a teens perspective. You make it sound like letting your niece have an opinion is a bad thing.
There is a sort of old series called the Enchanted Forest Chronicles. Loads of dragons and girly stuff. By Patricia C. Wrede
Is it the "Dragon" series by Lawrence Yep? I remember reading it (a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago), but I can't be sure.
Eragon was great till the ending of Inheritance.... The ending was so lame that even the worst rip off of LOTR would have been better...
I’ll look into the LDC you mentioned. Rather than not letting her have an opinion, it’s more like I want to pass on what I loved myself. And she’s nine, not a teen. Please also read my note below for my reason for not buying Eragon. It’s shipping, on the way. ╮(╯▽╰)╭ It’s not that. More, I want to pass on to her what I loved myself, and since I never read Eragon, there would be no “passing on of the baton,” so to speak. Since I’ve only been her aunt for a short amount of time (she’s my husband’s niece), it seems to me to be more meaningful with a greater chance to make a connection to give her something I cherished. Yes! That sounds like it! Thank you!
Another excellent YA series featuring 'dragons' is Timothy Zahn's Dragonback series. More scifi but very good. https://www.goodreads.com/series/49579-dragonback
And yet another excellent YA Dragon series is the Pit Dragon Series by Jane Yolen, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pit_Dragon_Trilogy Dragon's Blood is the first novel. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089VWYAG/ref=series_dp_rw_ca_1 Other fantasy series a girl might like: The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley (Newbery Award winner) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CY2XFDK/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 The Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005JDR5PQ/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 Riddlemaster of Hed series by Patricia Mckillip https://www.amazon.com/Riddlemaster-Hed-Patricia-McKillip/dp/0345331044 Tamora Pierce novels most of which have a strong YA female lead. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamora_Pierce
I'd vouch for the Eragon series. Fairly lengthy novels though. Shapeshifter Dragon Series by Marc Secchia are also, in my opinion, amazing. Again might be better for reading when she's a little older.
Aye, this one. Forgot about it. He is a slave boy or something that raises the dragons and ends up connecting with one, right? I need to reread it.
Yep that's the one! I haven't read it in years but just noticed it is in Kindle Unlimited, so I think I've found something to read over the weekend
Yup. That’s one of the series I bought. But I think I have more than enough for one Xmas. Thanks for the reminder about the Blue Sword! I’ll probably do the Black Cauldron another year, though. I’ll look into Riddlemaster. O(∩_∩)O
