Favorite Novel: Tough because I like different novels for different reasons.

Hmm, if I had to narrow it down, Praise the Orc and The Amber Sword are classics for me because of the MCs really struggling to find themselves and their personal beliefs by overcoming trying situations.

In PtO, the whole novel has this major theme as the ex-soldier MC resonates more with the "NPCs" in the game world than people in real life. He tries to find himself by pursuing the code of an Orc Warrior.

In TAS, there was one particular moment MC finds himself being greedy and hypocritical as he abandons "the weak" to be doomed for extra treasure when he previously had sworn that he would never do so, and karma ends up catching up to him.

I've started reading Chinese Cultivation Novels and now thoroughly enjoyed the genre. I'm also already branching out to other other novels like Korean. I've also had my fair share of Japanese novels as well. All in all, I've read what's considered as fantasy. I've read no Sci-fi but I am considering. My hobbies are listening to music and drawing.

 

Hi peeps! I'm alamerysl, and often go by ala.

I'm pretty new here, both at NU and in reading Asian novels in general. I actually discovered them because a friend very enthusiastically suggested I read "Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation". Another friend also suggested I watch "Guardian" and told me it was based on a Chinese webnovel. I watched all the Guardian eps and read all of the GDC translated chapters available at the time and got addicted. Some poking around lead me to NovelUpdates and then a few weeks passed in a blur as I consumed a bunch of novels.

Hobbies: I read a lot of fanfiction and books. A LOT. I am apparently an absurdly fast reader. I also do a lot of knitting and playing of video games. I'm also the Treasurer for two nonprofits that I volunteer for so I do a lot of accounting in my free time, in addition to work.

Genres I like: Honestly, I'll read pretty much anything. I'm especially partial to anything related to BL regardless of genre. I also really enjoy transmigration and system admin novels, two things that reading Chinese novels introduced me to. But throw anything at me, and I'll at least try it out if not read it until the very end. Some days I feel like a book eldritch monster... om nom nom nom

Favorite Novel(s): GDC since it was the first one I read. "Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil" was the next novel I read and it's stuck with me since.

Other notes: My family is from Taiwan and my parents definitely forced me to Chinese school on Sundays when I was a kid, so I can read like five Chinese characters now. If I could travel back in time, I'd tell my younger self to pay more attention in Chinese School so I could read Chinese novels without relying on awesome translators to translate them to English or MTL (which I discovered recently as well). Maybe this will finally force me to relearn Chinese...

No, you didn't misread! I do love BL! I just meant that the sig you linked me to as so much good stuff that I'll be focused on that instead of doing anything productive.
