so, just skimmin youtube, as i'm bored as heck atm, and saw something on doctor who's latest incarnation. didn't watch it, but made me curious if the fan backlash was bad as i expected. took a look at a couple of places that did reviews, and critics apparently loved it, while fans pretty much hated the hell out of it. been seeing this sort of trend for quite a few different shows/movies, and it made me wonder how critics could be so detached from the things that they're reviewing so as to completely ignore boring stories, excessive woke-ness, or just plain bad acting and still give them a resounding 10/10, 100%, or full 5* review. i understand that there's far too many shows for people to really devote their full attention to giving a truly in-depth review with comparisons to an entire franchise/series, from a professional perspective anyway, but some of the issues just seem to be so bad and obvious that there's no way even a new viewer shouldn't cringe over at least some of these things.
A real critic will a least try to give an objective view of a show's quality even if they don't like it. For example, Games of Thrones is a well made show even if I don't like it. Internet 'fans' will go 'New Doctor is woman, 1/10'
Money is correct. Just like how most game critics reviews mean nothing. I was kind of bummed out when I noticed the doctor is now a women, but i'll probably still watch it.
You aren't even detailing the situation honestly so basically you want us to take for a fact you've read bad critics and then imagine reasons as to why it's so, to reassure you into your opinion. There's no place left for debating.
Looking into shows like Game of Thrones, most book readers will say it starts to suck heavily after season 3 or 4, but the people who only watch the show will still say it's amazing even with its nonsensical plot. It generally depends on what kind of programs the critic likes, that can usually tell you how they will respond to certain things. Lastly, just because someone has a channel on YouTube doesn't mean that they have good taste.
As a "real critic" I dropped Game of Thrones at the Daenrys- Drogo rape. I gave it zero stars. Came across clips on YouTube but it's simply too gratuitous. A good number of porn actresses featured in it too so it's not a surprise. It is simply the American version of Jin Ping Mei; instead of using Japanese porn actresses, you get European ones. I am sure it made a lot of money too. Stand alone clips especially with the dragons are awesome and the soundtrack magnificent but I won't watch an episode even if I am paid
Yeah, even the female Stark rape was not in the books too. I don't know how the creators got so much praise It is popular due to gratuitious nudity They are smart though. My answer to all that shit is this I just found the song today. It was featured in the first and last episode of this Taiwanese drama. https://www.viki.com/tv/36106c-love-and?locale=en I laughed it off as an idol drama that I was watching with my brain switched off but after reading the post below. I recognize my ignorance. The drama did make me want to emigrate to ASAP lol https://almosthometaiwan.wordpress.com/2014/04/30/marching-forward/ When I laugh my entertainment blog, I intended to write about the drama but the post above probably did a better job of describing the song and the undertones of the drama for featuring the song. I guess it wasnt some dumb drama after all haha
One thing to keep in mind, is that critics tend to try looking at the show as a standalone production... As in, without paying too much heed to in-universe inconsistencies or when it disrespects the original work and makes a drastic change. I don't really like this kind of method, but it is a better way of giving an objective view of the work for someone that isn't invested in the franchise I guess. Many things get better than our original impressions when we ignore the entire franchise that it is connected to.
