I'd suggest For a Prosperous World. It's one of the more unique stories I've ever come across because it tackles the subject of immortality in such an interesting way. It is a genderbender, but that has the added side effect of eliminating any romance in the novel (which would have been misplaced anyways), and while there's a bit of wuxia in it, it only exists in bite-sized amounts. I'd also suggest the book I'm currently reading: "Moscow in Flames". But I suspect it won't work for you. Thanks for saving me from these. Why the hell don't people mention this kind of thing when they talk up these books?
For Reign of the Hunter, it's only the recent chapters that got heavy into the romance. 220ish chapters are super good and worth the read. PGC the ML saved a few times too much, it's the common case of a supposedly competent MC being dogshit enough to need saving by the ML. I liked the beginning but the quality of the story went down after the thousand year timeskip of the cultivation lifetime. The MC feelings for the ML were multiplied by 100 and he became stupidly obsessive in finding the ML in the bug world.
