This is more a typical "underestimated MC" type deal though, Its been awhile, but I'm pretty sure the Word Magic he uses never existed before he was summoned, so they don't really understand it.

I'm more looking for something like The wrong way to use Healing Magic or Close Combat Mage (the idea, if not so much how the author ends up using it), things were the MC takes already established concepts and uses them in creative and out of the box ways.

 

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! MC uses the most basic forms of magic, that are only useful for daily things like making drinking water, starting a fire etc., to fight monsters and the way he implements them makes it very successful...

 

That’s not even true. Konjiki no Wordmaster started with the MC only revealing his “innocent bystander” title to make the appeal that he’s not a hero, then getting out of the king’s reach before anyone could learn about his OP magic system.

Onto the question at hand... they’re not really magic focused but maybe you’d like VRMMO Ossan and Only Sense Online? They’re both about the MC playing a VRMMO with builds that are considered trash by others but work out due to chance and proper application.

As for a recomendation the: Reincarnation into the Barrier Master is intresting but I havent finnish it and so far it is deffinately harrem and he is already married. I think it will spill over to polygamy so maybe not a good recomendation sorry.

The Skill Maker is intresting also but the trl is slow and im in the raws.

Close Combat Mage his power is not trash (water mage) but his dream is to be a warrior (close combat) so he adapts it (help from equipment) in inventive ways.
