Discussion A huge problem with modern day CN novels

Here I am reading Tranxending Vision thinking "man this is a pretty good novel, not much nationalism or racism to speak of..." then the mc takes a trip to a foreign country(Germany) and I immediately had a terrible forboding. Lo and behold we've got a gang of black guys who call themselves Black Dynasty strolling through the streets of Essen kidnapping and raping "white girls" and selling them on the black market while speaking and acting like stereotypical CN beta villians.

Please... CN authors... just stop.
In literally every modern CN novel I've read thus far things always develop horribly when the author writes anything related to foreign countries. Things are all well and good 100 chapters in then all of a sudden the mc goes to America and we meet up with Cleetus, JimBob and their nephsons going n***er hunting after downing a few Pabst Blue Ribbons at the local monster truck derby...

I'm alread 120 chapter into this novel and so far it had been going great but if this kinda bs persists then I'm gonna have to drop it like a bad habbit.

 

I can stand the racism in that novel, but the fact that the protag is getting walked over by women all the time and giving into their insane demands made me drop it.

 

120 chapters huh~ I think I dropped this novel within 10 chapters.

 

you do know that CN webnovel authors don't browse english sites for novel critism.

 

Well it keeps selling their books so the readers must like it.

 

It's China , what do you expect? Since pornography is banned, the only thing they can get off to is their fanatical nationalism.

 

But...human trafficking IS a huge issue not only in America but Europe too. Also, you don't seem to complain when CN authors portray Chinese people as corrupt bastards that are always trying to rape your lady. The problem I have with you "racism" complainers is that the CN author essentially takes the exact same enemy trope (the "rape yo gal thug") but makes it a white gang or black gang instead, and now you're all like RACISM!!

I'm not saying it's not racist, they are stereotypes (which is probably all that most CN authors know if they don't travel a lot). Chinese are quite racist people (in fact a lot of Asian groups are quite racist). But as you can see from how they portray their own people, they portray everyone terribly. MC's are killers, any male antagonist is a second generation d-bag supported by a gang, and any female is either a huge bitch or is a token harem member for the MC. They do this because they need conflict to keep things interesting. Did you really think their trip to Germany was going to be a slice of life Rom-Com totally uncharacteristic of the novel (or any CN novel)? When they take it to the international stage, the MC is always going to meet d-bag, the same kind they've always been seeing before. This isn't the kind of racism that makes a series bad, if you want bad racism you need to read 9 Heavenly Thunder Manual - Now THAT is racism.

Huh? So it's not okay for Chinese to use westerners as a villain but it's okay for westerners to use Arabs and Russian as villain in pretty much all of its movie?

How unsurprising it is to see folks trying to justify what is being rightly criticized. Yeah, stereotypes are both common and bad in general in CN novels, but "Stereotypes and nationalism being common in CN novels means that racism, especially anti-black racism, is OK" is just about the coldest take I've seen today. Jfc.

 

I actually HAVE ranted multiple times about how Chinese authors represent villians in their novels and I'm so used to it that I've already stopped giving a shite. Don't assume that I'm biased just because you've never seen other posts from me. Also there's a difference when writing about yourself and your own people as someone who lives that experience and writing about another people and their lifestyles and cultures based off of stereotypes and your own boased views. This is especially inexcusable when we live in the information age and it doesn't take much to do a little research. This lack of research is especially obvious when foreign characters speak and act just like Chinese characters and villian characters where anybody who is actually from that region will tell you that it's total bs.

 

I like how so many of people's defense against op's post was in itself very racist with generalizations and unfair assumptions and stereotypes. If I complain about some racist crap done by white or black guys in cn novel, that makes me white or black? That makes me ok with racism or rape against chinese? I think people should be more careful not to be ignorant or intolerant in their rush to act self-righteous.

 

I never said it was but I'm also not gonna comment on that since I'm from the Caribbean and the history of international relations between the major powers is far from my field of expertise. I also never suggested that westerners can't be represented as villians since there are shitty people all over the world no matter where you look, my problem is with how these villians are represented in such ethnically stereotypical ways while they speak and act in ways much unlike actual westerners.

 

I can't believe that i am actually reading people being upset over OP not being okay with racism in a CN novel.
To actually see people spout bullshit like: "But so do westerners!" And "Asians are generally very racist, so its okay!" are the most idiotic things i have read in a long time...

To actually see people trying to justify the inclusion of racism is absolutely baffling

 

Its just a badly written novel with a somewhat racist author no need to get all upset boys

 

You eventually grow immune to it. That or stop reading.

But still, if you think that's bad you should see some of the stuff they write about the Japanese lol.

 

Heyyy, how about you take that broomstick out of your ass and instead of looking for racism in anything and everything you read just enjoy the novel? Not sure about you, but when I read novels I WANT TO RELAX, not think about the real world and all of its problems and how to solve them.

EDIT: and if the author wants to be racist in his novel, then let him be, not like he will do anything to you, and you can just stop reading that author's novels.
