Any option but bl, not that I'll stop any of you from your preferred side dishes, just not something I'm into. That would be super awkward, #feelsbadman Least it's not your dad reading it....
That's because the vast majority of yuri fans also have many other genres they enjoy. In other words yuri lacks the diehard fanbase to compete. The same cannot be said about fujoshi, as their fandom spreads like a virus. There are even those that are so beyond hope and such rabid consumers of BL materials that they actively spurn other genres, or convert other source materials into twisted BL versions of the originals. One noted member of our community(sry forgot who it was) once said that she actively read other genres only because she has read all the bl available, she just actively converted all the characters to men as she read...
that's cruel~. You're the one who mentioned BL, and asked why it's so popular, so you should've been prepared to see fujoshi's and fudanshi's.
I'm an omnivore heheh I'm good with BL and GL both, though BL is first place to me. GB is nice too lmao. If you were actually looking for a legitimate reason as to "Why BL" tho, well, for me and many others I know, other girls, reading GL and BG is very awkward. Especially smut. BL allows us to create a distance between ourselves and the characters through the knowledge that "they are guys". Reading GL or BG, on the other hand, breaks down that distance. Another reason is the same as why some straight guys like to read/watch GL. If they're attracted to girls, then hot girl on girl action is like double the hotness. For some straight women, I imagine that there would be a similar aspect.
Oh, my~! You poor thing. ... So, what does she recommend? Actually, that's a myth~! Unlike BL, which is all one thing and aimed at straight women, GL is made up of a number of categories aimed at various audiences. The very first and original GL category seems to have been aimed at straight women, and this article that was shared in the Garden suggests that men are relatively new to become a target audience. The main consumers of yuri are actually women, and the mangaka producing it often are too. In fact, I know several yuri manga made by BL mangaka~! TV Tropes has some articles that give a good, brief overview of yuri and its fans: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/YuriGenre?from=Main.GirlsLove https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/YuriFan (I feel like there are a lot of men who say they like yuri because it's socially expected for men to like lesbian "action", but I find very few who even bother reading the hentai.) Karaoke power activated~!
Yeah idk i don't really care, i just can't read stories where the protagonist is romantically or (and especially) sexually interested/attracted to females.. the rest doesn't really matter to me, whether the protagonist is male or female etc. idc... BL is generally written for woman, but BG has stories written for males as well as females as well as stories who try to not favor either one (regarding the recipients) either way it's often troublesome to find a story i like... so BL all the way man ~~ can't deny that i just have a thing for BL either though But wow i can feel you, i would be so creeped out if my mom were to read BL stories esp. on wattpad. *pats on the back
I prefer GL over BL because I like soft bodies and beautiful faces. I also enjoy futanari too. There was one BL manga that I liked because it was kinky dubcon smut
I wouldn’t mind if my parents read BL on Wattpad or anywhere because it shows that they accept the LGBT community. It would give a better chance of not getting kicked out of the house when I come out as well
I like queer stories because I get tired of reading gender stereotypes in fiction. When things are mixed up a bit more, it's a lot more interesting to me.
That's all well and good. No hate against the LGBT community. No, my problem is when my mom wants me to read the stories she reads as well. She watches korean BL dramas, too. She roped my brother in to watching them. I have no problems with BL, it just isn't my kind of thing. Perhaps GL is fine, but I haven't really found a good one. Most I read can have the genders swapped so all I have to do is imagine that one of the characters is male. In fact, the best romance novel I read was The Snow Country Hunting Life of the Northern Nobleman and the Raptor Wife where the male was a pretty boy that could cook and clean and whatnot while the woman was a hardboiled soldier. And yet, the guy was still aggressive with his passion with the girl being the subject of his feelings, so it still seemed to fall into the 'norm.' I guess I just haven't read a real yuri novel. But I don't even know what makes it a yuri novel. Just to have the two romancing characters be female? You can essentially have a boyish girl be the husband character with no real effort. It just doesn't seem to click. The more adult options seem to show a more intimate and sometimes real relationship between people of the same gender and the story only lasts 20 pages at most, if you know what I mean. I don't know how to explain it. I don't really want a story that focuses on the difficulty of two same sex people being together, I get it, but why should it feel so similar to an old fashioned heterosexual relationship? Is it the same? Maybe I am just ignorant. I would have figured a relationship that doesn't fit the conservative norm to also contain different roles instead of just the usual dominant darling and submissive sweetheart. But maybe that is just me. This
Coincidentally, this is almost exactly the same as the reason I no longer read western stories and switched over to Asian novels. It gets repetitive and cringy to me and Chinese novels always have different stories. At least for me that is, I only read online stories
