Ah. Explains why I passed it then. I'm not a fan of 'dark'; I read for cultural education and/or positive entertainment - 'tragedy' and 'antihero' are tags I actively avoid. If I want 'dark', all I have to do is turn on the news, and try to guess what the world will be like in 5, 10, or 15 years. : | It's called 'escapist literature' for a darn good reason. : )

Grand Blue makes a fun read. RATH is good comedy. Savage Divinity is pretty well constructed. Obligatory Invisible Dragon. Also check out Cicada Dragon and The Probability I can kill my wife. Dungeon Defense if you want that intellectual grind.

Hm, then my best rec in the list would be Into the Black - a scifi VRMMORPG with essentially no real world crap. It's Not Easy Being A Man.... is also darn good, I'd be surprised you'd not tripped across that one before, though. The Dao of Magic is a bit of a head trip, and probably the best - hands down - story about how a thousand-year-old cultivators brain would really work; it really works that cliche. You might enjoy The Silver Mana, but it's a bit early, to be honest. I get the best kick out of re-imagining it; it would make an awesome background for a TRPG.

Rather than horror/tragedy, I'd say it's on the suspenseful side. Everything isn't rainbows and butterflies and the hero 'experiences' loss and setbacks which aren't tied to his backstory. It's one of the only stories I've donated to.
