I am tired... of some of the stereotypes of westerners that show up in some these novels. This one I'm reading portrays us as arrogant racist assholes who don't know how to construct well worded insults and get angry at the drop of a dime. It's just so exhausting reading about this. I'm sure the authors don't know cringy it feels to watch someone completely misunderstand and disrespect your culture, and I know they don't mean to insult anyone. It just wears your spirit down to see it happen over and over. Anyway, I hope you have a great evening.
So you are not here to see yellow monkeys slap each others faces? And now i need a joke so that this post isn't so racist Something something jade beauty All done the balance has been restored
Though i don't think it's that bad in western media but in novels it's to the point of nonsensical lol. Well it indeed gets tiring, i don't blame you for speaking out.
Nah, it's simply a cheap and sure-fire strategy to acquire audience... you may find it surprising how effective this way is on the internet.
On a side note. I wonder when we will get another 'white gruff male' being potrayed in the next media coverage.
I think you are being very giving of good intentions to people that use those stereotypes in their novels....they may know exactly how offensive it is but that is life. \o/ There are enough Asian stereotypes in western media to counterbalance the western ones in Asian media. Meh, that's life.
racism won't stop while borders keeps existing, and borders will exist while ppl believe in different things.
In the imaginary world or a novel, westerners doesn’t mean Americans. Black people doesn’t mean Africans. Chinese people also don’t mean people from 21st century China. The imaginary world of fiction has nothing to do with your world. This Chinese person isn’t the same Chinese person in your world.
Honestly plenty of people don't notice this but just about every country in Asia is ridiculously racist/xenophobic. Some of the countries well connected to the global market like Japan are just a bit less so but the more closed off ones like China (or even more so North Korea) are insanely racist beyond what you can imagine and it's something you notice in at least 9/10 Chinese novels/manhua/tv shows/etc. any piece of entertainment coming from them is crazy. Not saying anything against asians in general just saying that they've had a long history of xenophobia/isolationism and they are more conservative and held to old traditions/viewpoints/cultures so I mean that's just the way they are lol.
I cant remember what anime it was, but they had a skinny Canadian voice a big muscular black guy. It was one of the most cringeworthy moments I've ever experienced in anime and that says a lot. I h really hope there are no comparisons with asian people but its one of those things that makes me wonder how little we actually understand theit accents, when they apparently can't tell the difference between something that to me seems so extreme.
*nods* I have cringed when I spot a loud American abroad....and I become very quiet lest I be noticed. But then, I've also come across the stereotypical Asian trying to scam as well. *shrugs* there IS something to the stereotypes....it's just not the whole story. Only shallow people believe in stereotypes completely and it's their loss.
