So, my shoujo sisters and brothers. Fruits Basket is being redone, and every single goddamn chapter of the manga is becoming animated and voice acted. What is this?! Is this the advent for shoujo anime?! Is it the season and time for us shoujo lovers to reign supreme over the shounen trash?! No more training arcs and fighting and loud roaring and “friendship is magic”! Is it time for drama?! Is it time for the advent of psychological complexities within other people?! Are the shoujo fan base finally going to get a rise?! Are OTHER SHOUJO WORKS GOING TO GET REMADE AND POSSIBLY A SECOND SEASON?! SKIP BEAT FANS! WHERE YOU AT! KIMI NI TODOKE WHORES WHERE YOU AT!! GAKUEN ALICE KIDS WHERE YOU AT!! List other famous shoujo anime please, these are just examples. OURAN HIGHSCHOOL KYOUYA OR MORI ROUTE SEASON 2?!?! (Cause I hate Tamaki, he’s too dumb and foolish for smart and cool Haruhi. Someone serious and nice is what she deserves.) YAMATO NADESHIKO?!?! TONARI KAIBUTSU-KUN?!?! Cough. I really want Skip Beat btw. I hate how we get one chapter a month, and it’s still not over yet, it’s been 15 years. Why can’t we get more chapters.
I kinda wish they did it with the art of the original anime, but whatevs. New one is smoother and stuff. What I really want is that opening to be used again. All that nostalgia just washing over me...
I am not a shoujo fan, however, I do like the anime Fruits Basket and I will watch the redone version once available, so thank you for the news
I didn’t really like the old anime style, I didn’t really like the manga style. The style they both had was the big eyes that was super popular in early shoujo. I never liked it, it always looked way too weird for me. Big giant eyes bigger than their face, was always a turn off for me. I’m happy with the new artwork, it’s very modern and looks real. +1000 Same here. SKIP BEAT IS SOOOOO GOOD. It’s so underrated because it’s kinda old. BUT ITS BECAUSE IT TAKES FOREVER FOR A CHAPTER TO COME OUT. Why can’t we get one week chapters ugh. Shoujo is mostly dialogue and no action, how come shounen manga come out so fast. No problem. Your welcome, it’s come out April 9th. Season 1 is coming out April 9th. And it’s going to be 100% manga accurate I heard.
The shoujo manga series you listed made me super nolstagic I loved Gakuen Alice and Skip Beat as a kid
I still read Skip Beat so I'd be in for a new anime. I also read Say "I love you" and Kimi ni Todoke. I just saw that Escaflowne was a shoujo I didn't know that. Edit* I want a anime of A Villainous Daughter, So I’m Going To Keep The Last Boss.
Oh yes I'm also a fan of Skip Beat. Watched the anime, read the manga, and I even watched the Taiwan drama!! It's so awesomee I wish there's a second season T_T.
Man I miss the early 2000 shoujos! Fruits baskets fame has slowly gone underground, but I’m sooooo happy there’s gonna be a remake!! On another note, Kono Oto Tomare! Is getting an anime adaption!! I advise everyone to go read the manga now!, it’s so good and beautifuL!! Also Chika is Love!!!!! (Literally)
Kimi no Todoke and Yamato Nadeshiko fan here. Btw, I thought this thread is made because Bakarina is finally having an anime adaptation... that the advent of shoujo being mentioned here is about otome game-based-villainess novels getting more attention in the manga and anime world.
I don't really understand what is going on much but I like almost all genre except hard tragedy and hard horror. Now in regards to listing shoujo mangas: On the top of my head Lovely Complex kimi ni todoke Special A Hiyokoi Shugo Chara Mamotte! Lollipop Gakuen Alice D.N. Angel
I love Gakuen Alice! The ending was trash piss poor pathetic btw. And I love Skip Beat!! We are all going to fucking die. Why does it take so long to update? It’s populsr too! And the fan base keeps growing? While shounen manga have action and heat more Meng, yet they are getting pumped out like the baby boom in the 1970s. SAMEEEE! I CRY! I CRY! The drama was okay. I wished they had a bit better actor that kinda looked like the characters. Tsuruga wasn’t hot enough. It got two seasons so lol. I forgot to list that, but seriously, IT ALREADY GOT TWO SEASONS. I’m sure they are making a third. YESSS 2000 shoujo was such a good time. Before it got super angsty. It was deep and full of fluff and hardcore “unique” drama. And than a bunch of bitches popped up. Crazy Bitch, Annoying Bitch, Bully Bitch, Suicidal bitch. And all these other bitches started popping up. Well, LOL. It’s more for old school shoujo. Because I’m sure as time passed, we kind of outgrew shoujo. I know I have mostly outgrown shoujo. It’s too flower decorated and sparkles flying everywhere for me now that I’m older. I enjoy a bit of BL and Josei, you know, more mature stuff. Because really, shoujo is all the same. Ditzy air head girl mc, and bad boy who pops up.
I forgot Shugo Chara!! AHHHH! It’s too bad the animating team got too PG and didn’t want the Ikuto and Amy ship because he’s an adult and she’s still in school. But like, it’s only cough, 3-4 years, bitches. And HES WAITING FOR HER!! LOVELY COMPLEX YESHHHH! YESHHHH SPECIAL A (was ok for me lol!) Hiyokoi, it got too awakened for me to continue watching. I don’t know why, but the series just felt awkward. I thought it was cute at first, but cool tall guy, and soft and sweet short girl didn’t fit well. She was much to PG. I FORGOT THE LAST TWO LOL BUT I KNOW IT. And this thread is about the possible resurgence of old 2000 shoujo anime. Since, NOTHING EVER HAPPENS IN THE SHOUJO GENRE. The shounen genre gets movies, and sequels, and chapters every week. While we are struggling by with our monthly 1 chapter. And when it ends. IT FREAKING ENDS! EVEN IF WE HATE THE ENDING!
I'm a shoujo fan, but I've personally never seen the appeal of fruits basket. watched the anime and read through manga spoilers, but could never get attached to any of the characters besides kyou. am I in the extremely small minority on that? on the subject of anime adaptations though, there are a TON of good content out there. honestly the one the people might look over is Ouran, weirdly. its first seasons was so popular so people have more or less already formed a solid opinion on the series based on that season alone, but imo ouran doesn't get good until maybe the last third of the manga. that's just about when they really start tackling the nuances of each character (who were mostly just archetypes in the adapted part) and the coming-of-age theme. ouran's popularity really overshadows the amazing writing (and art!) of its latter half.
