What if someone took translated novels and cut the useless bits out?

Mehhh... What would happen to some translators who release chapters based on word count, depending on amount of donations. They'd lose out if they cut off most of the crap.

But on another note, all this repetitive crap about how beautiful the MC is or how emaculate MC or ML looks like in the eyes of the fodder could really just be removed.

I think you can just look at some "1 star reviews" of some bad series. Because sometimes they do tell when the series try to be repetitive (MC goes to new place, villain young master don't like MC, they fight, MC wins, and repeat with maybe also including MC seducing a ice cold beauty in the list).

    Then dont read CN.
Most of the CN novels ive heard from here are paid by word count. So they tend to repeat things to get the amount they want/need thus making profit.

Also short chapters are nice but not for good ones. Its cliff material if its below 4k words.

Oh alright. Then he just wants a re-written story. It would be better to just get a better stroy and translate it.

No, he's talking about already translated novels, so it is not a project for translators, but perhaps for editor or even lurkers

Hold on, everybody! None of you automatically filter useless craps out while reading novels? Don't people normally automatically filter unnecessary sentences or parts of the story and correct grammar and spelling when reading? o_O

Ah the word count dilemma. As an example, the last 4 chapters of The Human Emperor. The author took 4 friggin chapters just to describe the clash of MC's army and his enemy. One whole chapter solely dedicated to countdown how many zhang does it take for the army to clash. smh

The idea is good but you'll need an extremely good editor for that or else the novel will lose a lot of things and also its charm.

Kinda like what you're proposing, there are a lot of "abridged" anime series out there. Not all abridged series apply though, since some abridged versions can get pretty creative in adding more humor/sarcastic commentary, but for the One Piece abridgement project (which is pretty big btw), it's just a straight up remake with useless stuff cut out. They've been doing it for years and have never ran into problems (though that isn't to say they never will). The general reception from the community has been overwhelmingly positive since, well, it's a huge time-saver and the story flows much more nicely.

Unfortunately, those are just hard to come across :((.

For the most part, I'd assume OP would prefer cutting over heavy English editing since length's a scary thing and the community's more or less attuned to mediocre writing. One can argue that frequent webnovel readers are also attuned to the gargantuan lengths, but generally, everyone can do with some saved time. Even if I'm used to it, I'd hardly complain if they had less boring parts. It really would come down to the question of who'd want to undertake something like this though.

It's possible, but pretty unlikely imo. And I don't think it'd be seen any differently under the law as just straight up translating without permission.

I feel that even bad fanfiction would be more respectful. Why would anyone go to more trouble altering a book if there are things they don't like about it? And would these people also go to the length of doing things like inserting female characters into the Lord of the Rings or dragons into Star Wars?
