I know how important a regular update schedule is, but about how often do readers want translations? A reasonable number, please.
I prefer a big dose in one go, like 15-20 chapters once a week. Often nothing gets done in a chapter or two and I’m left irritated than all I got today was filler
Defining chapter ..... 2000 words ..... Calculating tiers S rank - 2 or more a day A rank - once a day B rank - 4 to 6 a week uniformly spread C rank - 4 to 6 a week, same day release or 1 to 3 uniformly spread D rank - 1 to 3 a week, same day release E rank - 1 every two weeks F rank - 1 every month Dead - 1 every year
Hmm. Depends on the series, I'd say. If it's a slice of life or something along those lines, a weekly or biweekly update is pretty necessary to keep the continuity of the story. If it's like an adventure type novel or a really stats grindy novel like Death Mage or The Tutorial is Too Hard, a monthly or bimonthly update is good enough to keep the story going, especially when considering the amount of content in each chapter. Now if it's a classic Wuxia or Xianxia, it should have 3 or more updates a week to make up for the amount of filler the novels usually have. Not all novels, mind you. Coiling Dragon did just fine without since it was practically always plot. Other than that, though, you should just go with whatever you feel like translating. If it's a fun story to translate, it should be read at about the same rate, scaled down a bit. Well, that's what I think at least -3-
1-2 per day however much a TL is able to do. Maybe 3 if its an exciting part of an arc like a grand battle or something. Im greedy.
One per day for a decent size. For bigger ones, 1 every 3 days. For LN size chapters, 1 per week. Anything else, I have a higher chance of dropping whenever the story seems to be stagnating.
Depends of the size of the novel honestly. If it is a novel below 500 chps or less then 1 ch/day with occasional double chapters will be nice , if it is about 1000-1500 then 14 chps per week , above 2000 well I honestly can't tell that's a lot of chapters and wait.
as long as its not longer than 2 per month on regular basis it is ok for me. i am not paying a single cent anyway
Depends on the length of the chapters themselves. I also rather get a complete long chapter every few days/weeks than half a chapter every day/week. But the important thing to me is consistency. Train me to expect them chapter them Sundays, and my brain will understand, but my heart will hate your guts if you fail to deliver a Sunday. In the long run the brain wins, at least for me. So if you would need to change the whole schedule I would understand, eventually.
if its an exciting arc that requires continuity, then a short chapter dump is welcome, bc i lose intrigue/anticipation when updates are spaced too far apart between cliffhanger-solution. otherwise 1-2 chapters a day is welcome, and the 2 chapters can be spaced out in the day (one in afternoon, one in the morning) to reward my "refresh page" habit. otherwise, sometimes when theres too many big chapter dumps it actually has the reverse effect on me and looks like a chore to follow up/finish through asap, so i end up letting it accumulate itself so i can read it later at a time when i'm FREE-free.
CN :1-2 a day KR: 1-2 a week JP: 1-2 a month if is LN chapter / 1 chapter a week for WN chapter this is my minimum requirement for your average novels.....if it's a novel that i have take a liking even a chapter a month is fine...
It depends on the total length of the novel as well. If the rate of release doesn’t at least give me hope that the novel would be fully translated one day, I tend to give up
Size of the novel is key, as is whether it is complete or ongoing. If ongoing, you should have the capacity to keep up and maintain authors' speed. If complete, if there is only 100 to 300 chapters, 1 or two times a week is fine. If over 2000, you seriously have to hit 5+ chapters a week or you are at least able to accept others picking it up; otherwise it will never be finished and the project will be a practical failure for all involved.
Personally I am more invested to a novel with double releases and I stay invested when there are 1-3 double releases weekly
For smaller chapters, about the length of Loner and Juliet 3-4 times a week. For longer chapters like Death Mage then once a week.
