The thing is that 99% of readers don't give a shit no matter how evil a corporation is. They could literally be using actual slave labor and only a minority of people will know about it and or give a shit. I mean, I'm pretty sure some of the parts in the PC, laptop and phone I use were made by literal slaves, and yet here I am, using them.
I mean, Qidian is owned by Tencent, which is such a large company that it is almost guaranteed that they have some backseat deals with the government. China has an interesting economy that I recommend looking into. There is a reason chinese webnovels in a modern day setting show wealthy companies having a large sway in many things.
