I know what you mean, I wanted to watch GoT but never remembered too, then I had one recommendation too many and it started pissing me off so I didn't watch it for years. Anime on the other hand has Full Metal Alchemist which is so overrated, I only watched it coz I was bored and before it got cool I guess, then it annoyed me how after that any anime fan I met was hyped about it.

 

Lol, yeah Game of Thrones( I am guessing that is what you mean) ruined the supposed women power story by raping Dearnys, where I stopped.
Only to discover from the wikia since it was too hard to avoid(lots of clips on youtube that I saw without knowing it was GoT lol) and I couldnt control my curiosity that every single female character was raped
Even those who werent raped in the book got raped in the TV show ie Stansa lol
I think 90% of the popularity is due to the nude scenes. I even enjoyed Hung, another HBO series more, while at least the first two seasons that had plot, last season had zero plot. The female police officer story was the best but wasnt developed
