I have a new Nokia 3.1 with android but im new to android and having a few problems.

I've loaded music files (mp3s) into the root music folder of the internal storage but neither google play music nor musicolet are recognizing them or picking them up. Im not sure why it isnt recognizing the files and google searching the problem hasnt provided a solution that worked.

the phone has been updated to Android 9.

tried 5 different music apps so far. Only VLC actually picks up the files when it scans. Dont know why though

You should find them in the “files” app that’s part of the phone (though i dunno if it’s named differently now since I haven’t used android since my note 2 broke), it shows all the files on your phone regardless of its type (mp3, mp4, jpeg etc.)

Sometimes it doesn't recognize them except the folder is named"Music" with capital M.
If it is named like this try creating another folder and move them there, then clear the data from google play music and reopen the app.

I'm not sure it will work on your phone but some people solved the problem this way.

I have. Still no clue. They just do not, for some unknown reason, recognize the files.

Maybe the files corrupt or not supported.

thanks. VLC, at least, worked rather than acting blind.

They're standard MP3 and not corrupted.

Simple try moving them again and restart the phone. Also go through the settings of your music player app and find if it has an option to rescan for finding music or if it can assign from which folders the music is selected and things like that.
Personally i recommend you download a better music player like poweramp. I have it and i can say it is the best music at least i have seen on Android at least much better than Google play music or the stock apps.

I've tried all of those several times but nothing work. VLC does, at least, but it is a bit clunky for a music player. i'll have a look at poweramp

Oh also poweramp is rather professional with the best options of course but it is not free. I think it is around a dollar or 2 on okay store
