When I was a kid in the 80s, Saturday morning cartoons included Robotech (Super Dementional Fortress Macross), Dragonball, Sailor Moon and a few others that I didnt pay as much attention to. You could find anime in video rental stores but normally there was very little variety and just movie versions of the Saturday cartoons. It wasnt till 20ish years ago when the age of interwebs started that we could find bootleg copies to DL and watch. This ofcourse broadened our horizons to include all the ecchi and hentai anime we never knew existed.... which began our happy decent into the perverts we are today xD
Was working out one day and caught Adult Swim with InuYasha. Instantly got captivated and also realized I'm weak when it comes to Isekai of any kind.
I used to watch Naruto with my dad when I was around 5-8. Around the age of 12, maybe older (can't really remember) - I started to watch Bleach(only for a few episodes) and Yu Yu Hakusho(still my favourite of all), still without acknowledging the fact that I had been watching anime - only to be pointed out by a friend of mine at school. Now, I had been indulging myself with reading and watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, I just got bored of watching any other anime as of late. (I might be the only one to had never watched Pokemon before.)
Strangely enough, my mum was into it since her youth. I wasn't quite interested at first, but then the Internet happened...
Shen i was 10, my poder brother was already ibto anime so he pulled me in with inuyasha. That was 9 years ago
I think I was 11? I would just try and find the episodes on youtube, and watched Tokyo Mew Mew and Shugo Chara and all that.
Not sure since having an older sibling into anime kinda made me already aware of the difference between cartoons (Western animation) and anime (Japanese animation). Guess when we bought pirated eng subtitled DVDs on 2RATS, Divisoria and Comic Alley, namely Cardcaptor Sakura, D.N.Angel and Kyou Kara Maoh! when I was about 10 or so.
???? i actually forgot...but at 12 i started to frequently watched anime.... when i realized it was anime is the thing i forgot...it shouldn't be not long after...13 years old i guess...this time i was already in fanfic and anime songs and wallpapers... so i should have known the name 'anime'
Samurai Pizza Cat but didn't know it was ANIME! It took several years before I became serious about anime!
Around 10 years old, when I realized Detective Conan that I watched weekly actually was the dubbed version. All that time I thought Japanese people were great at speaking my language...
Not sure at what age but I remember watching Dragonball and sailormoon, just thinking how innocent I was and seeing the fanarts of those two IPs when I became aware, quite the shock.
Introduced? Shortly after birth in the 80s. Got into it? During elementary school, Doraemon. Started treating it as cultural activity? In college.
