MCs mother sealed her power in an attempt to hide her and let her have the normal life she didn't. Think this is why her grandmother never found her in her past life. Being reborn broke the seal tho so that's why she has power now.

Spoiler: Step mother

She is tyw core of all her previous life's misfortunes. Of course, her father too.

She is a shu daughter of a Prime Minister.

I personally found the author's setting a little bit too exaggerated (and misoginistic), as she is deliberately making her the daughter of a brothel courtesan and entertainer and blames everything on her bed & seducing skills. She purposefully stigmatizes being passionate (and good in bed) plus being a concubine. Nothing new, most of this genre's novels are constantly too classist and depracating of women other than the di MC or the "always pure" female leads.

Step-mother schemmes to meet her father like 2 years after his main wife's "death", and she knows how to wrap him around her finger.

She dislikes MC for obvious reasons,but also because, initially, the MC is cold towards her.

The moment of reincarnation is precisely after stepmom "saves" MC from a strange illness.

She's caused that illness with MC's father consent and help. The plan was to get MC trust her, just what happened in the previous life.

MC trusting ONLY her stepmom on the previous life led her to a lot of wrong choices that caused her death.

She got her completely alienated from anyone else, except stepmom's niece (the one that stole her husband).

Spoiler: Dad

Her father is pure scum. He is a man of his time but he's also too lustful. Is like he can't stop thinking with his pants, that is why the evil stepmom has him caught in her spell. She is good at bed so he gets addicted to her.

He treated MC's wife too badly. He was utterly disrespectful not consulting with her about having bed warmers and concubines while she was pregnant.

He was in cahoots with evil stepmom to drug his own daughter only so he could go on a 3 year long trip and take that new wife with him

 

She had a seal her mother put on her so her powers wouldn't manifest and her grandmother wouldn't find her.

She wanted her to be a normal girl, but MC's mother trully doomed everyone around her.

Regarding the parents.
Hmm.......The fault lies to all the parties involve.
MC Mom for being weak, and still could not forget The Uncle, and didnt try to be nice and doting to MC Father. If she could being nice to him, then he might not try to find another woman to give his attention and to warm his heart. (Unless the husband is serial womanizer that cannot be cured, then off with his stick lol )
And to the Uncle and his wife. Since he still went on with the marriage, the best thing to do is forgeting his feeling and start to treat his wife as his only one. Just like how his wife does to him.
How many times we read sad angsty tragedy story that happen to the children for above reasons XD

When you get together, marry, is there anyone that prefer her/his spouses to have a feeling to someone else? To think of the ex or some infatuated that cannot be?
If she cannot forget him, then she shouldnt get marry, or just kill herself after entering the household (but please do it before you have children). You'll spare everyone heartache, and might save them and herself from empty marriage/life.

Just finished reading this novel. I think it's ok and worth the time. Here are some spoilers, please forgive any typos and let me know of any to fix them. Also, I read it from the machine translations so there may be some mistakes.

Spoiler: The MC

A woman whose mother descends from some race of goddess, she died because of the plots of her concubine mother, cousin and husband. She returns to the past and the seal that her moder put on her powers was broken, giving her spiritual power, strenght and intelligence. She starts learning from all the books his mother left behind and plots her revenge against those who harmed in the past life. She dealts with her concubine mother, father, cousin, ex-husband and some other political figures that were behind some events in the past and present lives, such as the empress and the crown prince. How she deals with them will be described in their section, so to not make this one too long

There's a period of 2 years where she's keep in a "Swamp (?)" by her grandmother after she rescues her from almost dying under the schemes of the Crown Prince wizard advisor. There her powers grow incredibly fast, which allow her to rescue her uncle, grandfather, and their soldiers, from certain death. After this, the army of her family venerates her like a goddess and is completely loyal to her. She captures the wizard advisor and discovers the masterminds behind the plot: The emperor, the Empress and the Crown Prince.

She gets many admirers, some genuine and others not so much. She also forges a very good friendship (with ups and downs) with two ladies from the imperial city. She trains a special "squad" of female military doctors in order to help his family. This helps her to get in the god side of the emperor and allows her to plot agains the imperial family. The only other one genuine admirer is the second prince, whose legs where damaged and can't walk, she heals him and then together with the ML help him to get the Crown.

At the end, she gets tired of all the plots from the imperial city and moves with her family to the south, visiting the emperor and other family and friends from time to time. She has three children, a pair of twins (male and female) and in the final chapters is revealed that she's pregnant again.

Spoiler: The ML

The Emperor's nephew. He's the classic hidden tiger, the one that pretends to be a wastrel to survive. He's the "king" of a group of 4 "wastrels" that terrorize the City. The Dowager loves him and dotes on him a lot. He's survived a lot of assassination attempts, some from the emperor and some form the Su Concubine that has his father around her finger.

He was recruited in some sect when he was a little kid and has been training under a very skilled master, has a high level of martial arts and has trained a special technique that allows him to shot fire form his hand. In order to hide this side of him, he has been using a body double: another guy who's the real wastrel, and has played around a lot (which brings some problems in the future when some girl wants him to honour a promise made by the double that he will marry her). In truth he's a virgin, because the strict cultivation method he's been training forbids him to have sex until he reaches a certain high level, lets he lose all his martial arts.

There's a period of 2 years where ML is keep in a "Swamp (?)" by his gradmother and ML trains like crazy until he reachs the peak of his martial arts, then he breaks into the Swamp and forcefully takes ML back. Of course grandma can defeat him, but his commitment and loyalty to ML convince her of letting ML go, even arriving at their wedding day to make flowers rain from the sky.

He's as lucky as the MC in family matters: He has a dad that doesn't love him, a concubine mother that wants him dead, another concubine mother that wants him dead, two shu brothers that want him dead, three shu sisters that... want him dead? Sure, why not, and a very loving mother and grandmother (the dowager). I assume the mathernal grandparents love him, but they're rarely involved in the plot, unless is trough his mother.

When the MC was the hot potato that every prince wanted (beacuse she's a goddess and her grandpa has military power) he's the one that correctly answers the question she makes to accept a husband, and he's also the only one (ok, the second prince too) willing to have no one else but her as wife and to never accept anything else in the backyard. He promises to renounce to his "debaucherous life".

He ended up living with the MC and her family in the south of the country. They have three children (a pair of twins and another one announced in the lasts chapters).

Spoiler: The Past Live Husband

So, this guy is the son of MC's Grandfather sworn friend, a Duke without any real power and only know as a very good painter. In this life he is enchanted by MC's beuty. The first move against him was when he was walking through the Mu Manor, looking for a fortituos enconter with MC. She makes him fall into a pond of water and causes him to get sick, she gives his mother some medicine, and while she didn't want to use it, all others doctors' prescription
failed, she reluctantly does. This medicine was mixed with adictive drugs.

Later, in a party, Madam Chen (this guy's mother) tries to get her son and MC together in a room because he wants to marry him and she want to use the classic "Oh, private enconter, there must be feelings between those two", mind you, no sex, just feelings. Unfortunate for both of them, MC realizes things are weird and when she's left alone with him, she throw poisoned needles at him. ML see this an labels her as a "savage girl that will have problems getting married", then she saves her when people (her granpa and the duke) approach the room. She later complaints to her grandpa why he called her to that room (he didn't) and why Madam Chen left her alone with the guy, he gets understandably angry and ends his friendship with the duke (they later make up, but agree to never mention a possible marriege between MC and that guy).

When no doctor can heal the misterious sickness he has (the poison), the family begs her to help him , wich she agrees to do. She uses this healing sessions to continue drugging him, making him develop an addiction to the medicine. At that point madam Chen is starting to get mad at her because she thinks MC is too arrogant and because her son is so obsessed with her. In one of the visits, Lan Xuan decides to go with her, wanting to "steal the guy MC loves", you know, the classic. MC drugs her with aphrodisiac and leaves her alone with the guy, then arrange for the duke and her grandpa to find them while making out. Both elders get mad and the granpa decides MC is never retuning to that house, he also bans Lu Xuan from visiting MC.

There's a point when some princes are eyeing MC, so she and her grandpa decided to use this guy as acover, arranging a very strict engagement between him and MC. He's forbidding form havin any other woman but MC, and he agrees, mostly because of his obsession with her. Madam chen gets mad and starts plotting with MC's concubine mother how to break the engagement.

While MC's trapped in the "Swamp(?)", the Crown Prince Wizard advisor heals this guy from his addiction. Lan Xuan uses this time to seduce him and get in the good side of Madam Chen. After MC returns, she runs to tell her that she (LX) and the guy have already consumate their relationship and begs MC to allow her to marry him. Both Madam Chen and LX want to retire the engagement first, but in the celebration banquet (MC returned with her family army after rescuing them and conquering the south tribes that reveled) she asks the emperor first, unde the argument that the guy didn't uphold the terms of their engagement, she also reveals that while she was missing, he was fooling around with LX. This breaks both this guy's, LX's and the duke's manor reputations. The Emperor naturally agrees. Is in this banquet that MC reveals she's a goddes descendant, wich makes this guy so mad at LX for seducing him and making him waste such opportunity.

After MC's concubine mother scandal cames out, and all the secrets her (The concubine mother's) family had are made public, Lan Xuan reputation gets even lower, and this guys hates her even more. Asking for the duke to bring forward the day of the marriage so he can torture her as soon as possible (charming). He mades her get raped by some beggars with leprossy, unfortunately for him, she gets around the duke's manor, sleeping with whomever agrees and soon the manor is infested with the sickness. At this point he and LX start having dreams about the past live of MC. After the emperor discovers the manor is infested, he orders for people to close it with all the dwellers inside, and then set fire to it. While the manor burns down, MC and ML visit them to send them on their way (they are already OP, so fire is nothing to them), at the end of his life, the guy remembers all of his past life and recalls MC vow of vengeance.

Spoiler: Lan Xuan

For a past life villain, she's really just there most of the times, acting more like a pawn in other's people's plots than plotting stuff herself. The times she plots by herself, it usually backfires.

She first meet the MC in a palace banquet, can't remember what were they celebrating. She has a standard villain personality that just envies whatever others have. She plots to put MC against the Fourth Princess, by telling MC that the princess called her mother a "mixed-blood" (a lie), this backfires because MC knows that an royal ancestor was a foreigner that married an emperor, thus the term "mixed-blood" as a derogatory adjective is forbiden in the imperial city, specially among the royal family. MC says she's gonna confront the princes about what she supousedly said and LX practically begs her to ignore it, calling it a missunderstanding (see, standard tactics). MC did end up at odds with the princess after the banquet, but it barely had anything to do with LX's plot.

Later she's been hangin around MC's family manor (MC's mother concubine is her aunt) and after learning that The Duke's son was interested in MC, she decides to "steal" him from her. She acompanies MC when she goes to the duke's manor to provide treatment, MC knows her intentions and drugs her with aphrodisiac, leavin her and the duke's son alone so they can be caught red handed by the two elders (the duke and MC's granpa). After that, she becomes a helper of Madam Chen, who wants for her son to forget MC and end the unfair engament he has with MC.

In the 2 years time MC was trapped in a "Swamp(?)" she seduces and seals the deal with the duke's son. After MC returns, she goes and shamelessly tell her about it and begs her to allow her to marry him aswell. MC's family kicks her out. In the palace's celebration, MC ask for the emperor to cancel her engagement with the guy and to give LX and him marriage, since they are so into each other that he broke his promises. The emperor agrees.

Later after the banquet, the scandal from MC's concubine mother's family is exposed to the people, LX low reputation goes even lower. The duke's family wants nothing to do with her, and he punished Madam Chen by demoting her to servant, for helping LX and ruining the manor's reputation and his friendship with MC's grandfather. Later, they bring forward the day of the wedding, just so they can torture her at home. On her wedding night, she gets raped by 4 (?) beggars, unknowingly for her and the duke's family (but no MC), she was pregnant, and she have a miscarriage.

She ended up causing the duke's manor to perish, as she got leprosy from the beggars and she uses all her tricks to sleep with whomever agrees in the manor, infecting mos of the male servants and some of the family members. She dies when the manor is set on fire under the emperor's order, and in her last moments, she remembers MC past life.

Spoiler: The Stepmother

Well she's an evil stepmother (SM), she's smart but most of the times it helps that most people around her are idiots (like MC father), or too forgiving (like MC's uncle and aunt), too gullible (like some servants) or just ignore (like MC).

She plots to marry MC father, by getting into his bed when he's drunk. Because she's a shu daughter and the madam from her household looks down on her mother and her, she's scared of having her marriage arranged by her, so she uses MC's dad as a way out into a better life. If I recall correctly, he was just and idiot who believed her after they woke up together. Later, she uses her charming arts to have MC's dad around her finger.

She plots againts MC many times, but I'll just describe the most memorable things here.

In the past life she raise MC into a useless lady, making her discard everything her mother left behind. She plots with her niece (LX) to get MC's husband and dowry, they succeed. After MC rebirth, MC makes sure that she and her father start getting apart. She makes her unable to follow her father into a work travel for a few years, in the past life she got pregnant with a son in this travel.

She joins hands with Madam Chen and LX to get MC and the duke's son engagement disolved. She's also a pawn of the Empress, it is implied that in the past life she's responsible of switching the anti-poison pills MC's mother left behind for the general and the uncle for useless pills, causing their death in an expedition. In this life she also plots with the empress, but she fails thanks to MC and ML.

MC befriends SM's legal mother (the Yu Family Madam) and visits her sometimes, most of the times she goes with SM and stays talking with the Madam while the SM "visits her mother". In one of these visits, she sends her snake to follow SM while she stays having tea. The snake reports that SM is having a pleasure time with one of her half-brothers, she goes to look for her, and when SM's mother said she didn't know where she was (lies, SM and her half-brother were in her mothers room doing the nasty) MC gets all scared and begs the Madam to help her find her mother. When all the people are looking for SM, she makes the snake bite both SM and her brother in the inner thighs, they scream and all the people looking for them arrive as they have finished to get dressed, she treats her mother and instruct another doctor to help the brother. Of course, after they are taking care of, people start asking what were they doing the two alone in a bedroom and how was it posible for the snake to bit them both in that intimate region. They both make and incredible story up, and some people just choose to belive, for they dodn't have enough evidence. Of course, the madam is just mad, while secretly happy. This scandal gets into the hears of MC's father and he starts doubting SM.

In the 2 years time MC was trapped in a "Swamp(?)", SM does whatever it takes to clean her reputation and reagain control of MC's household, something she achieves because the dad's an idiot and the other family members are too forgiving. She plots to have a maid get into MC's uncle bed while he's drunk and get preganat, causing a rift into the uncle and aunt relationship. She gets one of the shu brothers of MC killed, just to get the cousins in troble. She reports the movements of the household to the Empress and helps in the plot that almost kill the uncle and grandfather. She also get's pregnant with "MC's father" child. MC's knows that that's impossible, but I can't recall exactly why.

After MC comes back, and after the victory banquet, MC takes her father into the SM household, because she went again to "visit her mother", because she used to visit in the past and she was in good terms with the Madam, the guards don't stop them. They sneak around and find the room where SM and her brother are, MC's father hears the conversation and learns that SM child is not his but her borther's. He breaks in and drags her from the room, the household tryes to help her, but realize that they'r in the wrong and MC is now a very influencial person in the Imperial City, so they let them go.

All her bad deeds get exposed, the general and uncle want to kill her, but after the scandal of her family is exposed she's handed to the autorithies to be judged with the rest of her family.

At the end, she and most of her family got executed.

Spoiler: The scandal at SMs house

When MC returns after two years, she finds out SM is pregnant, she know it's not her father's and perform a check on SM, discovering there's something wrong with the fetus. After that, MC makes a casual comment about babies born from incest, telling that they usually have malformations. This scares SM a little.

After MC and her father caught SM and her half-brother in bed they bring her to the general manor and punish her, MC keeps her alive and tell her that the baby will be the ultimate proof on her infidelity, so she'll wait for it to be born before eliminate her. MC also complains to the emperor about the things going on on the Yu Family's backyard, because of the weight MC has, the emperor orders a full investigation on this scandal.

After interrogation, it is discovered that incest is a very common practice on that household, and only the main branch seems to be unaware or at least some of them. The Step-brother claims that it was his father that introduced him to the tradition, when he caught him doing things with her sister (I think this was SM), SM confesses that she was taught from young how to scheme, plot and seduce her way to get the things she wanted. She didn't like doing things with her father and when she told to her mom about her step-brother, the mother instead blackmailed the brother to sleep with her. In the end she schemed against MC's dad to escape from that house. Similar confessions are made by other members of the family.

All of this is made known to the emperor, and then the people of the city, destroying the Yu Family 's reputation. The Madam divorces her husband and she and the Di son (both aparently unaware of all of this things) throw him out of the Manor.

After SM baby is born, it turns out to be a pair of conjoined twins. This scares the people (MC and ML are leaking all the info to the people) and convinces the emperor to order the execution of all the guilty members of the Yu Manor.

More Spoilers The MC's Family

Spoiler: The Grandfather

The GP is a general of the empire, he has a big army under his control, this is the mayor cause of many things that happen to the MC's Family.

He loves MC and is deeply grateful towards MC's mother, as he owns her his life and the life of his army. After MC's mom was forcefully brought back home by MC's Grandmother, he continues to raise MC and pampers her a lot. In the past life he and his son (MC's uncle) ended up dead because of the schemes of the royal family and SM. In this life MC makes sure that he survives. He usually plays the part of MC backing and agrees to all of her plans.

He almost dies when he's schemed by the royal family, they collaborated with a neighbour country and a sorcerer to have the GP and uncle trapped and killed in what was supposed to be a relatively save mission. Fortunately, MC and ML arrive on time to save them. After conquering the rebellious tribes and capturing the sorcerer, he discovers the betrayal of the royal family, destroying his undying loyalty towards the empire. MC convinces him to pretend he knows nothing, so to get revenge for the soldiers that died because of the schemes. He returns victorious and is rewarded by an awkward emperor, in the celebration banquet, after ML and MC get engaged, he wisely asks the emperor to allow him to stay in the capital city and returns his army order, the uncle also asks the same. The emperor is happy about the general decision and accepts his petition, but to not look too eager to remove the power from MC's family, he denies the uncle's petition, only granting him some time to rest at home.

He's in charge of punishing SM when she's caught with her stepbrother in bed. He also punishes MC's father, sending him to the mines. At the end of the story, he moves to the south of the empire with MC and the rest of the family.

He's the classic Grandfather that pamper MC, and his only flaw is this pampering, because he practically does whatever MC wants, he is responsible of MC turning into a waste in her first life by not monitoring SM enough. And had he killed SM after he discovered it was her the one that poisoned MC, many problems could have been avoided, including some of those dead soldiers.

Spoiler: The father

The main character's father (MCF) is an idiot, he's stupid beyond what's acceptable for a stupid "villain". Easily manipulated by women, he thinks so much with his little head that it surprises me he didn't died of an STD before meeting MC's mom. SM knows how to control him, and MC also knows, so she sends some concubines to keep him monitored and to drift him apart from SM.

He's envious of his brother (The Uncle), because he feels that he should have the fame and glory his brother has, but seems unaware of the flaws of his own character. He doesn't have much autonomy in the plot, he's just a pawn used by SM.

After MC makes him realize that SM had put enough green hats on him to celebrate the next St. Patrick's Day, he's punished by his father, and send to work to the coal mines (?). He dies there a few years later. While working there, he seems to finally be enlightened and realize all the bad things he did before, he accept his guilt and on his deathbed he asks his father to say MC that he's sorry.

Spoiler: The Uncle

Is this the crippled uncle from transmigration novels? No. The Uncle is a General, just as the grandfather. In the past, he was rescued by MC's mom and she fell in love with him, but he was already engaged to another woman. MC's mom respect this and doesn't forces the issue, something all the family are grateful for.

Every year, on the day of MC's mom "death" he gets drunk, this is the only time he gets drunk and this is known by all the household. This is also the moment where he and his wife are the most distant of each other. Despite this, he's loyal to his wife and has no concubines nor bed-servants. Since he didn't accept MC's mom, a goddess who saved his life, he's obviously not willing to accept any other woman besides his wife.

Noteworthy is that in the two-year time-skip, he gets a concubine, well, more like the concubine forces herself on him. This is part of SM schemes to destroy that branch of the family. SM convinces a servant to get into the uncle's bed while he's drunk. He does nothing to her, but he and his wife end up quarrelling and he takes the servant as a concubine out of spite. He later regrets it, but both he and the aunt remain proud and can't apologize to each other. Things get worse when the servant reveals herself to be pregnant.

He's with his father when the army almost perishes because of the schemes of the royal family.

After MC returns he deals with SM and her father first, then she goes to visit the pregnant servant. This woman is bold and disrespectful, using the uncle' son as her backing. Unfortunately for her, MC's aware that the child is not her uncle's (She already got the confession from another servant) and after she makes a comment about MC's mom memory keeping her uncle prisoner, MC gets mad and makes her have a miscarriage. She begs her uncle to spare her and save "their son", but the uncle only demands the identity of the real father. She denies everything but the other servant comes and retells the story: SM told this servant that if she were to get pregnant she will secure a place in the household forever, and kindly remarks that she just needs to get pregnant, it doesn't need to be MC's uncle baby. She continues her denial, but MC gets tired and calls her snake threatening her to turning her into snake-chow if she doesn't confess, she gives up and tell everything. Can't recall her fate, but it mustn't have been nice.

The uncle moves with the army to the south of the empire. After the second Prince is made emperor, all the General's family moves to the south with him

Spoiler: The aunt and cousins

The aunt is a really good woman, she's indebted to MC's mother and she takes care of MC as much as she can. Mind you, is obvious that they didn't do it very well sometimes, otherwise SM wouldn't have been succesful with her plots in the past life.

Her plot storylines are tied with the uncle's, so there's really nothing much to say. She loves the uncle and their sons and she's reluctant to them joining the army or training in martial arts. MC convinces her to let the two kids join in her training, so they could be strong and healthy even if they become scholars.

One of the plots of SM consist on blaming one of the kids on the death of MC's half-brother, the son of MC's dad with another concubine. She puts oil near the pond where the kids usually play and makes the kid fall and drown. MC's father gets mad at his nephew and the aunt and kids get really sad. After MC reveals SM as an adulterer, she also makes her confess on this scheme and the aunt and uncle almost kill her.

She moves to the south with her husband and the rest of the family

Spoiler: The Medical Team

One of the first things MC does when she returns is organize and train a medical team to help her grandfather and uncle. She goes out and buys a lot of slaves, mostly women from fallen aristocratic families, she get a few men too, brothers of some of these women.

She uses the logic that those women have known the hell that is living as a slave, so they will not try something stupid, such as try to avenge their fallen families. She's proven correct.

She trains the medical team in both martial arts and medical techniques. At the beginning this team was only known to the family, but fearing that someone may find out and accuse her grandfather of plotting a rebellion with vengeful people, she makes her grandfather to present the team and idea to the emperor. The emperor is a bit reluctant, but understand MC's logic, so he gives MC his support. Still, some people convince him of setting some trustful persons to check the training of the medical team, he assigns a few princes, and officials, including ML. These people do nothing useful and only slow things down, so MC complaints and with the help of ML, she gets rid of them.

Latter, there's a scheme designed by the crown prince and 4th princess, involving mixing assassins into the medical team during its first official appearance on the palace. They seem to succeed, blaming one of the brothers of being in contact with rebellious people, but MC manages to twist things around and put the blame of the attempt into the 4th princess, making the emperor order her execution (It was all Crown prince's idea, but he made sure the 4th princess wouldn't mention him)

Later, the team continues to exists, but they're rarely involved into important plot lines.

Spoiler: The Concubines

These are MC's father concubines, besides SM. Some of them have some importance in the plot, one is specifically set by MC to be by her fathers side and take her father's affection away from SM. She succeeds for a some time, but things go wrong when MC disappear. This concubine manages to have a son, but he dies under SM plots. After MC returns, she wants revenge against SM (She doesn't love MC's father, but she did love her son)

There are other concubines around MC's father, some sent by MC other's gifted to or taken in by him. SM hates this part of him, and makes things difficult for them as much as she can. She realize that some concubines are MC's people, and she informs her husband about it, managing to convince him, but since she can brainwash that idiot, MC can too, and things backfire on her.

Spoiler: The Servants

Most of MC's servant are completely loyal, and therefore boring, so lets talk about the treacherous one! (TO, can't recall her name, something about "after the rain", MTL gives weird names).

She's first schemed against after MC and ML get married, MC is living in the ML household Manor. MC notes that TO is distressed, but she doesn't know why. Later, one of the mamas under Su Concubine comes to report they have reports of an immoral servant doing dirty stuff in the manor, saying this servant left her handkerchief on the crime scene. MC is informed that the virginity mark of her servants will be checked, MC fights back, but finally agrees. TO tells her that she was captured and raped when she went to visit her family some time ago, that's why she was acting weird. MC realizes this is a plot of the Su Concubine, to put the mark her as "a irresponsible master". TO begs her to protect her, even daring to suggest MC makes ML declare her as his woman, MC does get mad, but forgives her and says she really doesn't need to worry about.

MC makes one of her spirits to take the form of TO and takes her to the inspection. This spirit has a virginity mark and this takes Su Concubine's people by surprise, so much that the mama doing the inspection wipes the mark as hard as she can, to make the "fake mark" go away, this ends up injuring "TO" and arising MC's anger. After that scene, TO is cleared of suspicion and the servants of the Su Concubine get punished.

Later, some of the servants share some suspicions with MC, when they note that TO is acting weird again. MC quickly send her familiars to gather information. Turns out TO was seduced by ML's shu brother (SB1) and convinced by Su Concubine to act against MC.

At this point in the story, the adopted daughter of ML father is pregnant with SB1's baby. She was supposed to sleep with ML, but he returned the gift to his brother. MC is aware that the fetus on this girl can not be kept, as it is a shame to the family, and that Su concubine only tolerates her because she has a use to it: to put the death of this baby on MC's head. MC has rejected this girl every time she comes to visit her, making concubine Su grow impatient, as the more they delay the plot, the harder it will be.

MC realizes what the overall plot is and gives TO one last opportunity to come clean, but she rejects it. Su Concubine finally gets tired of waiting and forces MC to allow this pregnant girl into her courtyard. After having some tea the girls starts having a miscarriage, and MC gets blamed, TO confess that MC put poison on the tea, ML's father and SB1 get mad at the lost of the baby and want ML to divorce MC. MC demands to bring a doctor from outside the manor to check if it's true that the tea is poisoned, the doctor arrives and what do you now, there's no poison on the tea. MC made people aware that the poison is actually on TO make up, she adds that she was aware of TO betrayal and brings the tea TO brew and her other servant switched.

WIth all of this happening (and with her snake in attack mode), MC makes TO to confess all the plan. MC and ML get really angry, and both state that they will not tolerate anything more against her. TO is sent to SB1, because she's now his people. It is implied that she was killed as she became a useless pawn.

This part was sort of boring for me (except the snake part, she's always cool), so some details may be wrong because of my lack of attention, but you get the general idea

Spoiler: The Spirits

This are weird, if I understood correctly, this are special plant-fairies that can be summoned and used by the goddesses. They can take any form MC wants and are usually used for spionage and deception.

The most notable one is the one that MC "gifted" to the emperor. MC makes a story about the spirit being a pure being from the goddess realm (Not sure about this, but she obviously lying to keep him convinced), the emperor takes her as a concubine and over time he relies heavily on her, she uses some pillow talk to drive the emperor mind in the direction MC wants. She makes the emperor realize that the empress is cheating on him with a magic ring left behind by the sorcerer (This is super weird, imagine rubbing the ring but instead of a genie you get a invisible incubus ready to battle, oh and the sorcerer can feel whatever the spirit of the ring is doing)

She later uses another pair of spirits to convince some princes that she's in love with them, and she will leave ML once they capture the imperial city and claim the throne. This was done in accordance with ML, both were getting tired of the princes' schemes and wanted to get rid of them as soon as possible.

 

I cannot like that uncle, this type of man (and woman) is the one that made everything wrong.
Why'd he get druunk EVERY damn year at the day of someone he loved eventho he'd has a wife??? Which spouse can stand such treatment eventho it's only once a year? It still proves there's someone in his heart. And to matter worse, his 'infidelity once a year' was what making villain to scheme and he managed to land a concubine and he couldnt do a shit abt it eventho he's a powerful general (He could silence the maid or anything).
Maybe it's the reason the aunt couldnt take care of MC with all their heartily.
Thank goodness the mother died, if not I could see how MC mother might get the regret and still clutching her lost love route and to make it worse, it's her in laws.......imagine what kind of tragedy and I bet it'll be festival of loophole for th villains to scheme at them.

Sorry for my rant.

 

I totally agree that this uncle is far from perfect, and I agree with the 3.X rating of this novel on Novelupdates.

This Novel did manage to caught my attention, but it had some parts that made me suspend disbelief because of how stupid some, otherwise smart, characters could be. Like, having well know week points, or not acting fast, or refusing to obtain evidence before acting, or refusing to see the malevolence in their SO, forgiving stuff using the bloody misunderstanding excuse.

Such a shame, because the mix of fantasy+historic drama of this novel was sort of refreshing.

More spoilers: ML's Family

Spoiler: ML's Father

MLF is and idiot that somehow has been smart enough to survive a sucession battle and have an army tally with him.

He doesn't scheme against ML or MC, but he always protect Su concubine and SB1 after their schemes fail. He doesn't allow ML's mother to leave the manor, getting furious at the slight suggestion about it. This is latter revealed to be a consequence of Su concubine's plot. He also pampers SB1 and doesn't care at all for ML. A painful memory of ML is when he was almost assassinated, MLF didn't seem to care for his survival, coldly looking at him laying in bed and then going to play with the son and daughters of Su concubine.

After the plot of Su concubine is revealed he gets so regretful that he kneels in front of ML, MC and his wife asking for forgiveness. MC and ML say no, and while ML's mother still loves him, she decides to go back to her maiden family, which is mad at her for not telling them earlier how bad things were for her in the manor and hate MLF to death.

He fights against Su concubine's original master after he rebels, this is when he is made aware of the idiot he's been played for all this years. After returning home, he orders the execution of Su Concubine and her daughters.

He continues to try to gain his son and wife back and tries to pay more attention to the son and daughter of the other concubine. After many princes rebel because of MC's plot, he gives ML the army tally before going to fight. He gets captured by the crown prince and his other son, SB2. After asking his son why he has betrayed him, SB2 reveals to him that he's been played again and he is not his son, revealing that the second concubine was also a spy serving other master and hat put a green hat on him all this time. He also gloats that his sister, while being MLF's daughter, has acknowledged another man as her father, as she deemed MLF useless. He gets rescued by MC and ML and later helps defeat the remaining traitors.

After returning to the Capital he orders the execution of both concubine and daughter. He's aware that she is her biological daughter, but since she acknowledge a rebel as a father, she should die as the daughter of a traitor.

At the end, ML's mother forgives him (Too soon, IMO) and they move to the south.

Spoiler: Su Concubine

She's the favored concubine of ML's father. She has him wrapped around her finger and hates ML with passion. She's responsible from the plot that drove ML's father and mother apart.

She arrives to the capital for ML's wedding with the rest of her family. In the days previous to the wedding, she tries to get the adopted daughter of the family to be ML's equal wife or concubine, something that ML thoroughly rejects. Somehow ML's manage to get his father accept that girl as her concubine. But Su concubine doesn't give up and together with SB1 schemes to get ML's drunk on his wedding night and sent that girl to him, unfortunately for them, ML is aware of their scheming and returns the favor, he has SB1 drunk and people find him sleeping with her. Now he can't reject her and has a reputation of stealing his father's woman (His father hadn't welcome her into his manor as a concubine yet, but word was out that he had the intention to do so).

Later, she tries the schemes previously discussed involving MC's servant.

It is revealed that she was send to ML's father side as a spy, and as a way to control him, her original master is one of the former princes (brothers of the emperor and ML's father) who still wants to take the crown and needs ML's father army to do so. Her original orders were to control ML's father hearth and get ahold of the army tally, but she ended up falling in love with ML's father and intents to made him fight for the throne and be his empress. She took her time to fall for him though, and her son and two daughters are not ML's father, but his brother's

Went she returns to the capital, she visits said brother and convince him that she stills loves him and will do anything for him. He sort of believes her.

Everything comes out when MC finds out the ins and outs of the plot she made in the past. ML's father was initially skeptic but after a few rounds of investigating on his own, he realize he was played with, he punish her severely. When the brother tries to coup, ML and his father go to battle him. She gets thrown into prison with her daughters. MC tortures all of them and later offers the daughters a deal: she won't torture them everyday but in exchange they will be torturing their own mother for her. They accept. When ML's father return from war, she asks her the true: is SB1 his son? he already knows the answer is no, when he asks about her daughters, she initially thinks about lying, but after being torture by them for days she tells the truth. All of them are killed.

Spoiler: Su Concubine Plot

Su concubine was sent as a spy, she almost get trampled by ML's father carriage while she was scaping from an arranged marriage she was against. ML's father help her, he had no other intention as he was in love with ML's mom. As a way of thank you, she takes him in a stroll to the lake, there, from far away they see a couple and hear some soft dialoge. This arranged play mades ML's dad belive that his wife is cheating on him with her childhood sweetheart, which breaks his heart but fortunately that girl is there to comfort him.

Afther that she's welcomed into the manor as a concubine and the bad days for ML and his mother began.

Spoiler: The Other concubine

She plays a minor role, but her origins are almost the same as Su concubine, a spy sent to watch over ML's father, but unlike Su concubine, she's not in love with ML's father and still loves her master (Seriously, when this get revelead to the reader, even the guards of this master feel pity for ML's father and call him an idiot). She and her son and daughter don't play any role until after Su concubine's downfall, when ML's father starts paying more attention to his other son and daughter to make up for the attention that was taken from them by the offspring of Su concubine.

SB2 is also not the son of ML's father, but thats no surprise at this point. The shu sister is though. This concubine takes his son to aknowledge his ancestors and he seems happy to find out who his real father is. His father only see both mother and son as pawns, but they seem aware and don't care about it. The Shu sister also aknowledges him as his father, which surprises everyone. She fell in love with the crown prince and wants to use her "father's" status and conections to become his woman, they crown prince accept her, they do the deed and he promises he will go fetch her soon.

Unfortunately, MC gets tired of waiting for the snakes to come out and shakes the entire earth making a lot of princes and former princes to come out of hiding and battle for the throne, while she and ML harvest their heads.

In the aftermath, this concubine an her son get executed, and since she wants to be the daughter of a traitor to the crown, ML's father order the execution of that shu daughter as well.
