Discussion Why are bulky muscular characters so weak in JP novels and CN novels?

Because people who read these books are mostly tiny weaklings who get bullied by said muscular guys.

These are fantasy trips m8, no one wants to read about how someone they sympathize with gets swirly'd in the toilets at school

 

It's all about the target audience and their aesthetic standards.

In fantasy/cultivation novels, bulky is more of a type of look than a measure of strength/power.

Otherwise, too many charas in such novels would hv turned out bulky, females included.

Muscles don’t mean much when there’s magic or a system which allows you to grow stronger by sitting down and thinking or just by killing things. Kind of irrational anyway.

actually, most, if not all wuxia/xuanhuan Hongkong manhua (by Ma- WIng Shing, Tony Wong etc) that i read when i was a kid features muscular MCs. Storm Riders, Dragon Tiger Gate, Black Leopard, just to name a few.

web-based manhuas nowadays however, seem to ditch that trend. so my guess is probably to cater to milennial's preference. Even in live-action movies/series, there's not many big, muscular mc. dawne jonhson is the only one i can think of. everyone else is just musular-fit. who knows, several years from now, the trend of big, muscular mc might return

 

For humor as most people would think them as badass and rowdy but actually are soft and meek. Though it has been overused that it lost its effect.

some have slim figures but stronger than some bulky guys for example a beautiful girl that can destroy countries have a hulking body thats not good right ? maybe thats why physical appearances dont define strength like one punch man or other cn novels like cultivating stuff but they have slim figures but clear cut body etc.

It is the 'plot physics' and magic of 'plot science', you don't learn them in school but only in novels/manga/manhua/hentai/anime, etc...

Being too muscular and big means higher maintenance on that kind of body. Beside most of those worlds have magic and i think from what i heard you can't maintain that kind of body without constant exercise and proper eating which in an adventuring lifestyle in JP you can't do.

Though what I find even more hilarious the China vs Japan stuff. I get the history behind me but my god it just takes away from the reading with the blatant bias in your face

 

explaining this on a theoretical way,
if brain signals travel the same speed for all creatures; a creature 100x bigger than us will have it's brain signals travel 100x more distance... or taking 100x more time.
in other words, they are 100x slower... technically

 

you are still using then human speed.
everything will pump faster to compensate for the size. so the giant would operate normally. even the signal transfer would be appropriate to size. meaning giants should/must be faster
