Discussion What do you think about Translators cutting chapters into multiple parts?

Now hear me out since I think this is a fragile topic to discuss since some people think Translators are Gods and can't be criticized because after all we're just leeching.
I am not calling out Groups that are cutting a chapter into two-three parts(Three and above is debatable depending on how long it is) since I understand that an official novel chapter is really really long, like let's say a Chapter from Overlord and that is perfectly fine.
But I am so frustrated about this one novel that is literally getting cut into 6 or 7 parts a chapter. That it's destroying the reader's experience with the novel because I know that the story is not meant to be read that way since I even went ahead and read the raws with google translate because that translation's pacing frustrated me to hell. The actual raw is character perspective heavy and cutting the story abruptly each time is nuts.
I think it would be way better if the group released Part 1 and Part 2 in one week - even one chapter a month is perfectly fine. Releasing the chapter in 7 parts over the course of a month made me drop that novel entirely. It was that destructive to the reader's experience and I would even prefer if the novel got taken over by another group at this point.

Forgot to mention that it was getting translated perfectly fine in the beginning but only recently that it went over the top with 6-7 parts so I don't know if there's circumstances involved with the group? Seems like the guys are handling multiple novels at once so the priority got cut with that? Now I'm just speculating.

Depends on why it's done I guess. If you're doing it because you translate slower and still want to push out daily or near daily content, then I guess it's fine but I think most people would prefer if you just sit the fuck down and release it all in 1 go. If you're doing it because the chapters are 10,000 words long, then yeah I kinda get it. But if you're doing it because posting more "chapters" gives you more $$, then you're a dick. Especially if you manipulate patreon/donators by giving them access to say, 10 chapters for XX dollars, but then those 10 "chapters" end up being 10 parts, which is likely like 2 or 3 chapters.

If it’s for a good reason (busy/no time) or they’re trying to get people off their backs I’m ok with it but curious as to why they wouldn’t just upload it all in one chapter unless they had a set schedule. If they’re cutting chapters down to like a 5 minute read for the sake of ad revenue I would be annoyed.

Yeah, I got bored of waiting as well and went to the raws, the novel is still very long and I mean a lot even without dividing it into so many parts.

 

I mainly divide into parts because the chapters are long and it's easier for me if I keep to shorter posts. If the chapter is shorter I'll release it all at once. I try to keep it to only 2-3 parts max though.

 

tbh I also hate that. When it destroys the pace, the translators should just post all 7 parts at once, making it (kind of) a mini mass release that won't really disturb the reader. Like that they would get more ad-revenue and the readers' immersion would just be slightly hindered by the constant 'next chapter' button-clicking...

if the parts are basically chapters in and of themselves of reasonable length and don't disturb the flow then I don't mind it though

Some Do that to Because of aggregator sites. Usually, that's what the reason translators give for splitting the chapters

 

A good option is to chapter hoard.

and that's one of the main reasons ppl stack chapter for months.

 

some cn translations (not stating specifically)(a lot of) with female leads in a xianxia setting are split into 15 parts and 1 part a day. it makes each chapter quite short
