I have not heard of the boy band BTS until I listen to a YouTuber, whom I follow, sung a English cover. It wasn’t long that I heard their song on the radio playing in Walmart. They began to perform in America on stage as loud as The Voice. And they aren’t even singing in English.

And so here is me — 0.0?

Like what? How is that possible? When Wonder Girl targeted the western world, they sung in English. No body but chu—chu. And here come BTS who members barely speak English, making it so big somehow that they are even interviewed in the Late Show.

K-pop hasn’t been this big, this loud in America before. Even my little sista followed them like crazy. She tries so hard to make me a believer. Now Asian Boss is talking about a mixed racial group, who isn’t calling themself k-pop, but follows the k-pop model and is being trained in the capital of k-pop. So?

What is South Korea up to? Take over the world? Make more money?

Maybe, we’ll see BTS sings in English soon.:blobwhistle:

    Update:

Fans are angry that BTS are facing discrimination and racial languages in America. That’s to be expected. America is a melting pot. South Korea is not. The man beauty standard in South Korea is opposite of America. If an American man of America’s beauty standard suddenly began to famously perform in Korea, Korean will surely have a lot to say too.

I forgot to mention, a lot of k-pop fans are nuts. Question the authenticity of their pop idol’s look and gosh, personal attacks.

It's not just Korean groups being big in the west despite the language difference. Babymetal is huge as well and has performed around the english speaking world to huge crowds.

In my opinion at least, i think it's perhaps because they're different to the western/english language music scene which, at least regarding pop and the other easily commercialized genres, has just gotten stale and cookie cutter.
Also when you dont understand the actual words and lyrics, you can really feel the music itself and the vibes that follow

Damn, it's just a music band. I was hoping BTS was a paramilitary organization with tanks, aircraft and warships when he said take over the West. Unless they deal in mind control music, no.

    :p

The only "boy band" capable of taking over the "West"

Most musicians try to get to the US. I think it's because we tend to do things big and have a lot of spending money. As for BTS they will fade out in a while most likely when the group has to take a break for the mandatory military service. Which is about a year and a lot can happen in a year.

Is it weird that I never listened to a single K-pop ever in my life? Those are everywhere but somehow I avoided them all...and I'm ALWAYS on youtube. I somehow never even watched rewind. Somehow bad shit just slip past me without me even knowing.

I think its because there haven't been any famous boybands lately the latest I could remember was One-D but that was years back and I am not up to date with the music scene

Lol yeah. My friends said going international isn't that great of a thing for BTS especially if you sing in Korean, because the West will mostly hear ching chong

I think that's often a common thing with boy bands. They sell looks and delusions more than actual music.

Had to say this but S. Korea is racist too, especially when it comes to a foreigner who has darker skin.

Personally, I couldn't give a crap about these guys cause like someone else in here said, they'll fade with time.

However, I do hope that The HU get huge...and make it big overseas and stuff, cause...i mean...

    XD

Also...I didn't really expect it to load that video here...so I hope that sort of thing's actually allowed, lol. =x

I think it'd be harder to sell a boyband full of bishies to those outside of the K-pop hardcore fandom. So they may actually struggle in the west to find a broader market.

Speaking from the perspective of a fan, I really have to laugh whenever we get lumped with other kpop groups.

When they were still in korea, they'd get bashed for coming from a small company, get bashed for using the same overused concepts as other groups, get bashed for winning awards over "popular" groups and still get bashed for promoting in america/winning bbmas.
