I'm a huge fan of Gundam Seed but when I watch it as a kid I have absolutely no idea anything above PG were happening, prob some character dying and such, I mainly focus on how cool the gundam were but yea I guess it should be for teens

It surprises me how many series that have been rec'd that i wouldnt think would be appropriate for a 5yr old.

Aria is a very laid back series that would be fine. It even has some life lessons in some episodes that would be good for a young kid.

    Bottle Fairy!
it's a cute anime that introduces you japanese customs. the story centres four fairies (the titular bottle fairies, they're so cute) who know next to nothing about human culture. they live in a house cared by a guy they call sensei-san (mr teacher) who teaches them stuff, and have a next-door friend maki iirc who does the same as well. its definitely made for young children.

i also agree with hamtaro, perman, doraemon, cardcaptor sakura, angelic layer. shoujo animes tend to be safe bets. when i was a kid i loved sentai shows -- power rangers, ultraman, kamen rider.

gundam seed/destiny is NOT for kids! the amount of nude shots it has lol nope please don't
