This is word chain, or last word, or whatever it is you call it. The name varies by region I think. The game is idenfied by having the person taking their next turn take the last letter of the previous word and making a new word that starts with it. I looked and found a pokemon version but not a good old fashioned anything but Proper Nouns go version. This version is handy for teaching people to speak English or for native speakers to expand their vocabulary. I would write banana, then the next person would write apple, with the next word being elephant and so on for the example. But since there are no Proper Nouns allowed, that is words you Capitalise, like the name Anna or the place Atlantis, you can't use them in a reply to the starter word banana. You also can't use the word Earth in reply to apple, and need to use English words so don't use Erde either, that is still our planets name even if it is not in English. I don't think I can write a more comprehensive explanation of the game when used to learn english, other than that the spoken version has the additional rule of the first person to use a repeat word loses. That rule is not part of this version since I will not punish the players by having them wade through the thread to make sure they don't use the same word someone else did. But there will be a rule that you can't use a word that you have seen in the last... 10 posts. So, the rules in a nutshell: 1. Next poster uses the last letter of the prior posters word 2. No Proper Nouns, or whatever you want to call unique names of people, places or things. Also known as the words capitalised no matter their position in a sentence. 3. Real words. 4. English language words. 5. Do not use a word that you have seen in the last 10 posts. 6. Do not use words that are also proper nouns, ie, Communism can also be communism. That seems like a way to start pointless arguments. 7. Good spelling is preferred but not mandatory, and as long as the word is not a proper noun it does not matter if it is capitalised or not since some people do that habitually or have a keyboard that does it for them automatically. 8. Slang words are allowed since thats how English makes some of its real words. But if the word is uncommon slang/regional in your area, be sure to explain what it means. If urban dictionary or its equivalent can't find the definition, look to #9 cause I think you just made sumthin up. 9. If you 'lose' you can come back later, either a week from your alleged loss or after an undetermined period of time passes and you want to try again to improve your vocabulary while following the rules. Personally, I perscribe to an hour break. First word; eggplant
Who said the game had to end? The spoken version ends when one of the players repeats a word. This game does not have mandatory attendance of players, they can just leave when they get bored. Also, I do not speak Japanese so I would not know anything about that version of the game. erroneous
That is capital. Are you talking about the communist ideal, or Communism, the political idealogy? No proper nouns. Unless it is just auto cap first letter on your keyboard.
Communism is not a proper noun sooo Edit: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/communism well it can be i guess so we are both right
I just got used to capitalizing the first letter. My apologies. Is communism a proper noun? I honestly don't know
It is. But it is also not. English is weird language, its fine if you capitalise a letter but lets try to avoid words that are both proper nouns and not proper nouns simultaneously. Communism and Marxism are both proper nouns, and loosely related ideologies.
Eclipse Don't we already have this game though?? https://forum.novelupdates.com/threads/shiritori-or-word-chain-game.33865/
