so a while ago (not sure how much has passed) while battle through the heavens was still getting translated I noticed that the patreon for it actually surpassed 40k per month.

And that kept me thinking till i forgot about it and just remembered now.

What makes a novel patreon popular? ; as in make people willing to pay over 50 dollars monthly for more chapters.

Now obviously the novel needs to be very good with no obvious shortcomings and novels such as that are hard to come by, especially from new authors that are just getting started on creating their first novel.

But what else? Does the novel need pass 100 chaps? Does every chapter need to be perfect for most readers? And if so what defines perfect for said readers?
I would like to read your options on the matter on what would make you pay over 50 dollars on a novel ( obviously if you can afford to pay the amount without feeling too much heart ache).

you just will never be able to understand a rich person unless you became one

i mean, they even had an auction of a painting with what? two lines? and costed million of dollars?

i mean paying for $50 for few advance chapter to read makes a lot more sense than the example above

BTTH had gone though a special period that is hard to replicate. the translation was good the novel was released with I think it was 2 chapters a day for free for a while. then there were ton of ppl who were reading the manhua for a while and ppl started commenting and linking the site where the novel was. it has more than 20 youtube reviews all over 100k mark. it also went thought the WW and QI storm with ppl saying they would boycott QI and whatnot. too much affected that novel along with few others.

Looking at patreons in general for translating, the formula is generally more releases per day = $$$.

The quality of the novel is not that relevant (though it helps).

While I haven't supported people on Patreon, I have done so on other platforms (Paypal, Ko-Fi) for certain projects.

What leads to the success of a project? I'd merely say the popularity of the work. They enjoy reading what was presented to them.

So you are saying that it’s rather hard to intentionally replicate the results

If frequency was the determining factor, I'd be among the highest earners on Patreon, which I'm clearly not, lol.

The bold part, especially the latter statement.

i think some just do it to appreciate translator, because tbh google translate kinda s***, and they want to push the kind translator to fasting the process. Well some people really really eager to know the next chapter (curiosity can kill the cat)

Its all in the marketing. Lot's of good stories are out on Patreon but most of the viewers would tend to flock to a busy stall than a derelict one.

Sex always sells but for this niche. There is a tried and trusted trifecta

    Ecchi + Harem + Loli

I don’t fully understand that but i suppose you mean that people will donate to a more active novel than say a novel that post 3 chaps a week or so correct?

I was talking about erotic novels.
Ecchi means perverted, doesn't have to be erotic, R-15 yes but not necessarily erotic

For me, patreon is always about supporting the TL. I never encounter any model with patreon that actually give a great benefit to the reader beside what rainbow turtle have implemented before. Now the reason of the support can be differ, it can be the delivery of translation, quality, interaction between TL and reader, etc.
