I can't read JP, and I am sure as heck not reading MTL. You can enjoy those "gems" by yourself. :blob_coughblood:

Gate. You can learn a lot about a culture by reading many of their works. It gives you a glimpse into how they think of what they believe. Cultural cliches often find their way into most regular works. More important than the differences between books from different culture are the books from different writers. A talented writer with a self inspired story has a strong tendency to trump national borders.

Though I have a bias towards JP, I believe they are all great! That is, until all the filler slowly creeps in...

Honestly many CN novels have a disturbingly high filler to plot ratio...

I could probably go into an hour dissertation as to why I think that is but I really don't feel like it. (n) Often the really good works are something original rather than something copied. Those stories can often break the current moulds.

that is high praise then ,to a chemist that shampoo ingredients list is perhaps one of the best things they read, so maybe to the right person the Malay novel is the one of the best as well

I'll take a well written JP novel over a well written CN or KN every time.

I say KR novels have a better quality standard, while CN and JP have novels which are extremely bad, but they also have works which are shockingly good, so it is really up to the readerĀ“s taste. :blobokhand:

I love them all but I'm gonna say CN novels. Nothing beats the way they write historical tragedies.

It's pretty easily Chinese web novels. There are just a lot more of those out there even compared to the rest of the world, much less just compared to Korean and Japanese works. And with that volume also comes a much wider range of genres than you'd find elsewhere. Admittedly I'm unfamiliar with Korean works, but my impression is that they are even more limited than Japanese ones.

I agree with you, and it's worth pointing out that web novels are sometimes not representative of the overall culture. In particular, Syosetsu is an extremely insular otaku community with little influence from the rest of Japanese society.

No capitals or quotation marks. A pun so obscure would be a failure without emphasis.

I think KR is on the rise this year, I feel a bit burned out with reading JP and CN. So I'm letting those chapters build before I binge.

I love Korean shoujo and josei, I think the best oneshots and short stories are Japanese, and Chinese does face slapping the best.

It's hard to choose only one. :notlikeblob:

JP: often come with harem and/or food-obsessed idiots and wimps. Translated sentences tend to be short and disjointed which makes writing seem juvenile.
KR: have more grounded settings and stronger characters but MC always hogs all the spotlight, acting like Mary Sue or Gary Stu.
CN: best writing overall but over the top drama and face slapping. The women usually come off as vicious and unlikable, even when they're main characters you're supposed to root for.
