Would you communte to a full time job an hour away, paying 4$ above minimum wage in your country? With a car that you may need to reload gasoline every 3 days, maybe even every 2 days. Do you think it’s worth it? Spoiler: My opinion I think not. Minimum wage in CA is about 12. Add 4,the hourly pay is 16. That’ll be about 2,700 gross a month. My net would be about 2,400. Gas hefe are around the average of 3.80$. The lowest I have seen so far is 3.76$. Currently, it takes 30 to fill my car all the way when I am down to one bar. In the worst case, I would have to refill every 2 days. Roughly, I will have to refill 3 times a week. I estimate that my cost of gas to be around 400 a month. If I take 400 gasoline cost from my paycheck , I’ll be making 2000 a month for working harder and having extra expense. If I report to my auto insurance my distance to work, I could also see an increase in auto insurance.
info about cost of fuel, total salary. public transport access, work hours, etc do they cover transport expenses
No? Minimum wage in the U.S. is something like $7.25 or so, last I checked. $4 higher is $11.25 or so. Which is basically complete crap. A fucking walmart or mcdonalds will pay you that, or better, and there's definitely more than one of those well within an hour of you. Probably three walmarts and twenty mcdonalds within half an hour. And a hundred other random places besides. If you want to work for so little (and trust me, you will not be paying your bills for $11.25 an hour), there are plenty of people and companies who would absolutely love to exploit you. No need to go so far. Now if they were paying you $13+ above minimum wage (so about $20+), it'd be worth considering. An hour drive is still quite a ways away, but that wage will cover your livelihood, so... If you can't find anything closer, I'd say go for it. Worth noting are jobs that require traveling as part of the work, too, which can definitely be worthwhile. Anyway, that's the U.S. ... God knows about anywhere else.
One advantage in some fields of work: higher wage now means more leverage when you negotiate for your next job. Your time is worth money as well.
Unlike public commute, where you are free to do whatever you want during the 1 hour you spend traveling. With a car, you are literally wasting the whole 1 hour.
$4 minimum wage, which year is it from?? In this case it's not worth it! Here it's around 7--8 but then again some still pays minimum wage of 5.
Well different states have different min wages but coastal cities have min wage of 12-15 dollars it gets lower as u go inside the us( ny they raised or tried to raise it from 12 to 14 or something)
No. Commuting is a chore in itself for me. I don't want to show up in workplace all tired and stink of sweat. Just look for a dorm near workplace IMO, though that will be another cost to cover.
Um, i think you can not justified every country, since the living cost is different in every country. In my country, if someone is given additional 4$ Per hour And have to commute 1 hour from home to work place, they would be willing. Since it is totally normal for people to commune 2 hours everyday and are paid with minimum wage. Therefore you would be better to ask people who live in your country, rather than asking for comparison in other country. Sorry if i offend you, just my opinion
Public transport is a no go I guess. I used to commute to work in a car for an hour at times. I was getting like 18 an hour, so it's not as bad. The thing is, any job is better than no job. An employer in your local area is more likely to employ you if you have a job. Take it and consider it a stepping stone to something better and more local
I used to commute about that much when I was still living in my family home. Then again, it was for a job paying me £115,000 a year.
I was actually very shocked to learn that the fact some beggars actually make 1 to 1.3k USD per day at a very busy place, like supermarkets or shopping centres in my country, especially last month where people just automatically become 10 times more generous. So yeah. Your statement isn't always true.
Can your car get you girls? If yes, drive. If no, just commute, you can watch an episode of any series with that one hour.
