Hi I'm relatively new to translating...I took a very long hiatus and just returned to translating novels. I have no idea where to post my translations. Should I start a new site, or join an existing one? Also, I found a lot of translated novels on here: [censored] is this a legit site for us translators or some people trying to take credit for our work?
Plenty of sites recruit tlers. Main thing might be if you want to translate a novel legitly with full legal permission or translate as usual without it. Sites like gravitytales, wuxiaworld, volarenovels, webnovels all offer the chance for full legal translations. As for other sites pretty sure in tler corner should find posts for sites wanting tler to join them. Personally, I would avoid Asian Hobbyist translation group Personally, I avoid reading any novels they touch due to their high drop rate. Yes, I always advocate against em But cant blame me. They earned their reputation I have of them in my view. Edit Also, if you have discord, there is a group called translators corner Editors and translators gather there and they have a recruitment board
I'd remove the link if I were you. "Read_____" sites that host a large number of novels are agregators, that steal from the translators with bots. So yes, that's another that takes credit for translators work. You can either message a group and join them to post on their site, or create your own site from the many options available to you (wordpress, etc.)
Wow i thought im the only one like this... They took in good (if not best) novels and translate it without asking it's previous translator. They reserved a lot of titles for themselves and then translate only a few of them.. Got invitation link? Or is it closed group?
No that is a pirate. You can post the translation on your site/blog etc. Scribblehub also allowed posting of translation so you can do that too. You can even join a translation group and poet your translations there.
Join qidian, "make translations great again, and were gonna build a paywall and let the readers pay for it."
For the discord group sadly i dont have permission for that Think need either a translator to invite or one of their admins. I'm only on there as an editor and I guess we dont get that ability
If you don't care about ads income or whatever just make your own wordpress or blogspot... (make copies beforehand in case the inevitable takedown request). Or just upload the TL in the discord you make yourself. In the age very long past, TLs will just put the stuff in a pastebin and then it will spread like wildfire mouth to mouth.
Any recs, which groups to join? Honestly so many out there I'm feeling dizzy. Btw, I heard some translators got permission from the original author to translate and publish the novels. Does anyone know how they do that?
I'm pretty curious about this too. I wonder if they need to pay fees for translations right and if so, how much can one expect to fork out?
It depends on the novel and the publisher system, really. For Qidian and the majority of chn novel, the one that hold the rights are the publisher, so author's permission might means nothing. For these works, translation rights = paying money. It's not for all translation tho. I do know that Yu Wo give right to half prince translation to translate her works (Dominions End, Legend of sun knight) & I don't think they have to pay %. The same with jpn translation, some author do give translation rights, but it was not commercialised.
You can ask the author for permission on something like weibo or on their novel platform (Zongheng, 17k, etc.). However, they don't always have the copyrights to their novel - sometimes it's owned by the publishers. In that case, you'd have to contact the spokesperson for the publishers.
