Some characters from "Returning from the Immortal World" appear to walk that way sometimes:

chapter 546: Gu Xiaoxue walked on the lotus stepand quietly appeared behind Tang Xiu.

chapter 644: Xue Yu walked in lotus-like steps and leisurely came to Tang Xiu's front

chapter 798: She waltzed in with a lotus-like manner as her steps brought her in front of .

You know when you dip your finger in water it gives waves of rings, some wuxia TV shows do it when a martial artist runs on water, they make rings around the feet. That's what I imagine it means

I think it means that he/she walks with light steps. Something like walking on blades of grass but with entire feet. In short it's something like relaxed soft steps.

As far as I know Lotus stands for purity and modesty and is as a fact a delicate and beautiful flower (that also blooms in muddy water but that is probably not important here).

So I personally have always interpreted that as a graceful / modest way of walking in a very soft way that does not even bend the grass the person stands on.

p.s. Well for women at least

I think it means to move elegantly on tip toes fast and swift, imagine how a ballerina walks but in large strides (I think that does give a closer image :blobunsure:, wuxia dramas usually show such scenes of steps or movement :hmm:)

lotus in china is considered as "elegant" and the lotus-like step by what i see is used only when referd to female....so i simply assumed they refered as "elegant step"......as for what kind of step they are doing elegantly, either is writen in the story either i don't give a fu*k

Apparently it is the way that girls with bound feet have to walk so they don't fall flat on their face.

Just a medieval form of torture. Perhaps.

It's a Buddhist way of meditation in the form of walking. By walking back and forth and rid oneself of their thoughts.

Or, it's the foot-binding, which is an "elegant" way to walk. ( Don't go look it up, it's bad. )
