OOC: Mhmmm... overall, that's a good start, though, I have only one issue.
That's regarding the mid-grade recovery potion. That's over the top~

Low Quality Potions - 30-80 Large Copper Coins
Mid Quality Potions - 2-7 Silver Coins
Then, the reward of your quest is 11 Large Copper Coins.
(1 Silver Coin = 100 Large Copper Coins)

So basically, it's that the "additional reward" is easily 20 times above the quest's reward.
"Mhmmm.", after reading the anthem, Gaap was stroking his chin and tried to evaluate the anthem.

    ...

"Well! Art never has been my thing. But this anthem sounds nice, good job on that. Lemme get your reward realy quick... here it is, 13 Large Copper Coins! And yeah, you get 4 Guild Points as well."
"That's rather the concise report...", Gaap could not help but comment on it after he finished reading. After a cough, he continued to speak.

"Anyway, that was a quick job, and well done I suppose. Lemme get the quest sheet... alright, 50 Large Copper Coins, and well, as usual, you get 8 Guild Points."

Will @Naraku check out our reports from last last week or should we wait for @AliceShiki to come back?

Dantia met Michael the client after asking around at the adventurer's camps since he didn't specify where was he staying at. Luckily Michael was always ready to go to the site he mentioned. Meanwhile,

"I think you should grab some preserved foods and some drinks, there won't be any camping sites to where we go and the road is more or less barren with just a few plants here and there. Bushes and grasses, inedible." Michael suggested to Dantia, which she did.

The site was a day away from the current camping ground and only reachable on foot.

"It's on a high ground after all, quite hidden as well. At least that's what I read from Roland's archives."

And so they began to walk.
    One hours in, nothing happened.
    Two hours in, nothing happened.
    Three hours in, something happened.

"Rock snake, two o'clock! Wait, two of them! Paralysis venom on bites, don't get bit!" Michael accurately pointed the threat.

    "Got it! Shaaa!"
Dantia swiftly took care of the snakes, cutting both heads with one hand each.

"Hmm. They're small and skinny, but is it edible?" Dantia asked.
"As a snack, yeah. They get along with alcohol, though not the best friend. I'll drain and skin them for now."

As they had only dried meats, additional fresh snacks were welcomed.

They continued their hike until the sun began to slant. As per Michael's suggestion they found a fairly big boulder to camp. There wasn't enough dry leaves or twigs to burn, but Michael came prepared. He brought a small stove powered by a small fire gem,
"And not to forget my life line!" Bottles of alcohol.

They enjoyed their early dinner, and when the sun completed set Dantia asked him,
"How do we rotate our night guard duty?"
Which he answered with a carefree tone,
"What, no worries. Here take this sleeping bag and go sleep. I have this tool which will ring very loudly when things enter the perimeter. No need to give up on precious resting time."

He showed Dantia a tool that's hard to describe. It looks like a hexagonal plate with runes carved on it. Many strings are attached to the edges and the tips have marble things dangling off.

"... you're an apprentice sculptor, but you have weird tools and knowledgeable of survivals. Who are you exactly?"

"Oh I am indeed an apprentice sculptor but my main qualification is a scholar. History and runes are my alley, and that makes sense if I'm interested in statues and sculptures especially the old ones."
Michael answered with a smug smile.

"Here, let me show you how to set this boy up." Michael stood up and put the device on the ground. Then he picked two strings, walked away, and put the marble beads after some distance.

"There. Just like that. Can you do the same on the opposite side?"

Just like that, the alarm device was set and they went to sleep.

They didn't wake up at all that night.
Invigorated after a surprisingly undisturbed rest, they restarted their journey earlier than expected. As the result, they arrived at the ruins site sooner than they thought.

"Just as the archives described. Camouflaged using nearby rocks, hidden beyond protrusion of the earth." Michael admired the accuracy of his literature.
"But the site itself is small. I wonder if... Woah?"

    He jumped in surprise,
"Small golems? In the form of snakes!"

"... how did you know that they're golems when they're that small?"
"Oh I haven't told you? This left eye is enchanted with a [identify] magic. I can use them as long as I have mana left... Which is probably somewhere between 2 or 3 more casts."
"Oh, that's convenient! I wonder if I can get something like that too?"
"I can tell you the enchanter, the rest is up to both of you. Now, let's go further in. I don't think those golems are dangerous."

Michael tried to approach one of the snake golems and they showed no reaction. Then he tried to nudge it, but still no reaction. Finally, he lifted it.

"Hmm. Lack of reactions. Guess it's fine to bring this one home?" Said Michael with a questioning tone.
"How would I know? You're the scholar here. If you're going to bring it home, how about I hold it for now? We still don't know the threats we're gonna face."
"You're right. In that case I'll take one after my business with the site is done."

After a few minutes, they found a descending slope heading deeper. No, it should be better said to be,
"A small crater with the snake statue at the end of it huh. How neat. Dantia, I'm sorry but can you keep an eye on our surrounding? This site doesn't look that old- probably just a hundred years old or so. Still, there may be traps my eyes can't see."

    "Sure nya."

As they advanced cautiously, they found that the site was completely safe. No traps, the snake golems didn't attack at all, not even any gimmicks. But they were waiting for the final surprise: either the snake statue or their way home. Therefore, they couldn't afford to let their guards down.

"Hmm. It's a... Normal... Snake statue. The design is humble, no complex engravings or tricks. No button, no messages, no magical sources. Hmm. It's made of the same rocks as the walls and pillars, just those rocks laying about outside. Unless I miss something. I'll grab a pebble and a small fragment of the statue that's crumbled and compare them to those small snake golems. Gosh... I guess I have to borrow the capital's lab again. I don't think Roland wrote this entry for nothing, but so far there's nothing noteworthy for scholars except for its weird snake golems. Meh. I'm done, Dantia we're going home!"

And just like that they went home. One snake golem was put in his pocket. Docile as an earthworm and sometimes Dantia would think that it is cute.

"Uneventful journey, but we're home safe and sound which is nyaice~"

"...that was rather easy I suppose..? Though, the fact that you have a 'big gang' makes me wonder why you are still working as an adventurer."

"Well, I guess that's fine, your job was well done and quickly. Wonder why they even submitted a quest if it was that easy to deal with. Here is your reward, 8 Guild Point and 23 Large Copper Coins."

OOC: I feel weirded out about how... swiftly/easy it went.
And well, as for organisations that players may have in any kind... IMO, avoid using these too much. It kind of kill the point of being an adventurer I guess?
"Cursed exploding dolls, eh? That's pretty rare to see this kind of puppeteer, as well, nobody likes to see their items exploding. Though, I admit, I guess it's better than getting stolen."

"Anyway, Elaine, you have done a good job. Hope Margatroi-- wait, Margatroid? Puppets..?", after realizing this, Gaap let out a sigh and shook his head. Wondering whether someone modified the quest sheet or that person was really named Margatroid...

"Haaaa... alright, your reward, right, let's see... 11 Large Coppers Coins with 4 Guild Points, continue like this."
OOC: I honestly don't know how to feel about this quest report. xD
(Since the wiki is rather slow, checking isn't practical.)
But I think the fairies are supposed to be a representation/materialization/or some word like that of positive feelings.
So... a gambler, a miser, a drunkard fairy... and on top of that, merchant! (this one is just a joke.)
Since I am unsure, I prefer waiting for Ali-chan's opinion~ (though she is busy but well, everyone is.)
However, I think it should be fine, the lore is mostly flexible~

"Mhmmmm. So Michael is scholar huh. While I knew Roland was a historian and so on. I didn't know as for Michael... I suppose that I am too focused on human history... well, I am clueless about dwarves after all."

"...I guess I am just biased toward them? On top of that, he has all that material... damned rich people. "

    *coughs*

"Anyway, Michael should be rather pleased, he got what he wanted... you have done a good job, lemme get your reward...", while taking the Bronze Guild Badge he prepared earlier.
"Alright, here it is...", handing it to her, Gaap continued to speak.

"Dantia, congratulations, you are now a D-Rank Adventurer, not a newbie anymore, and your pay (if you do accomplish requests) will significantly increase. Hope you continue to climb the ladder."

They're such cute children, why would they be called Devils? I don't really get it.

Good job out there nonetheless, at least you can now put in your job resume that you have experience as a nanny I suppose! xD

The reward will be of 8 Large Copper Coins and 4 Guild Points.

    Take care now~

((Sorry for taking so long! I'm not appraising something that was already appraised, am I?))

A seemingly satisfied Rei walks into the guild and heads towards Gaap's position at the counter.
"That was fun, here is proof of completion by the way"
After asking around random adventurers in the guild, Rei has arrived at the arena, where she felt the presence of someone with considerable skills was waiting.
"Excuse me, are you Kagari? from the Nyllia sky striker squad?"

    "Yes. who is asking"?

    "My name is Rei.
    An adventurer of the guild.
I have accepted your request regarding a duel"

    "......Are you underestimating me?
Putting your young appearance aside (I am not dumb enough to judge a book by its cover), you are clearly blind!"

"I assure you, my blindness has not diminished my fighting prowess.
I was getting bored too lately, seeing as my mates just wouldn't stop worrying about me and didn't let me do anything for the last two weeks or so.
I hope to have an enjoyable fight with you."

    "...I see.
    As you wish, let's begin"
Kagari picked up a blunt short Helberd and took stance 20 meters away from Rei on the battle stage.

At the sign from one of Kagari's subordinates that was accompanying (keeping an eye on) her, both fighters rushed towards each other.
One was brandishing her longer weapon, while the other put strength into her fist and was ready to meet the joust head on.
The clash rang across the stage, as the two of them were locked in a stalemate.

Recognizing each other's specs, both fighters had a nasty smile on their face.
They took a few steps back to break the status quo and began analyzing each other's fighting style.
While Rei couldn't see her opponent she could still read her movements by sensing her life force presence.
After a short exchange of feints, small barrages, and some counters, the two combatants kicked into a higher gear.
Kagari took flight and enveloped her weapon with some mystical fire.
In response, Rei used Flame enhancement in her whole body and followed Kagari into the sky using Saint Walker.

No need to mention, that seeing her chase her into the air using such un-orthodox method took Kagari by surprise.
However, she regained her calm as soon as Rei got within striking range of her weapon.
Unfortunately for her, it was already too late - as she was also within range of Rei's "weapons".
Rei released the built up power in her palm strike, to send a flat shockwave into Kagari's torso.
The attack knocked Kagari back by a few meters and disoriented her for a moment.
Rei immediately gave chase, not indenting on letting that opening slip by.

Probably used to being disoriented midair, Kagari regained control of herself pretty quick and blocked Rei's first attack.
The two of them began to exchange blows for real, each covered with her own flames.
They were constantly moving, never stopping in place.
The fierce exchange ended when Rei managed to slip by the Halberd and grab at Kagari.
The tengu tried to shake her off, but only managed to make the hold tighter.
Kagari then plunged them both into the Arena floor.

Both fighters took some damage from that, but luckily they weren't very high in the first place.
Both of them stood up slowly and approached each other carefully.
Unlike before, this time the exchange was fluid as if they each knew what their opponent would do beforehand.
It was a contest of pure skills, the first to land a strike would win.
This battle of dominance continued for a while, the two sides countering each other and reading into each other's moves without stopping.

Finally, there was a breakthrough, and they seemed to have stopped.
However, instead of a clean winner, the two were once again stuck in a stalemate.
Rei's fist was right by Kagari's nose while Kagari's Halberd was right by Rei's neck.
They both managed to outwit each other's defenses for one major blow.
    It was a complete draw.

The pair withdrew their weapons and bowed to each other, thanking their opponents for such a fun fight.
"I didn't have so much fun in some time.
    Here, take this token"
She grasped Rei's hand and put something inside of it.
"This will serve as proof to the guild you completed your task.
And Here is the bag with 20 Large coppers in it"
She handed to Rei's other hand a small leather pouch with 20 large copper coins.

    "Was nice meeting you Rei"
"Thanks. You too Kagari, it was fun"
Rei joyfully started walking towards the guild to report her quest.
    - Met Kagari at the Arena
    - Small talk.
    - Fought Kagari - who was using flight, tengu flames, and a halberd. It was fun!
    - Fight ends in a draw.
    - Got a token as completion proof to show at the guild that Kagari was also satisfied with the quest, and the 20 Large copper coins.

Gaap looked at Rei and sighed.
"Mhmmm. Look like everything went pretty well. No broken bones or anything?"

After checking the token, the receptionist opened the drawer and handed the rewards.
"Anyway, for your well-done job, here are 20 Large Copper Coins... ah, and you also get 8 Guild Points. Stay safe and find a way to heal your eyes as well."

A letter comes from Asphodelus was send to the guild, apparently it is from Lykke.

Seeing the request was mostly to make cravings, Lykke neutrally took this quest as she was almost a specialist to cravings, what she didn't expect was how far the library was...

Since the girl didn't want to fail her quest, she pleaded the merchants who will also on their way there. Trying her best to convince them, the conversation got dragged a bit long, but at last, they readily agreed to her in exchange for her handcrafted figurines.
After she packed all the necessary things, Lykke vent with the merchant to Asphodelus, helping with cooking, setting telt up and so on under the long travel.
She split up from them in her destination and booked a night in an inn. The next day, Lykke came in contact with a librarian whereas he led her to the magician.
The Magician gave her some simple instructions of what she should do before they started to work, every floor, shelf, and walls weren't left untouched as they work on the runes. After two weeks, the job was done and Lykke got a bit extra reward.

OOC: Hmm... I'm actually better in third person?

Task: The Shadows of the Past
    Requester: Norden, traveler
    Quest Rank: E-rank
    Rewards: 11 Large Copper Coins
Description: Because of an old dispute I had with a friend of mine, he ended up dead... Terrified by what I have done, I fled, fled through all parts of the continent, seeking repentance, seeking forgiveness...
Yet none of those found me, only my friend's shadow keeps chasing me, haunting me, giving me visions of him, entering my dreams giving me nightmares over the moment of his death... Over and over again...
Please help me... I'm so sorry for what I have done...

As soon as Zinc entered the guild hall, he noticed a rambling middle-aged man causing a slight commotion by the receptionist desk. The man was Norden, a traveler who had visited many places before coming to Nagrand. Curious as to what the commotion was about, the dwelf edged closer.

“As I was saying. I need help. They…these things just won’t stop haunting me! I must be possessed or something! Do you have an exorcist in your group?” Norden pleaded as he held his head in pain.

The receptionist Norden was conversing with looked around in hopes of finding someone to take the middle-aged man off of him. The receptionist also felt some headache coming along as he tried to calm down Norden.

“What seems to be the problem?” Zinc asked as he approached the two.

The receptionist, upon seeing the doctor, light up and explained. “Norden here seems to be suffering from something from his past. Can you try to help him?”

“Hmm…judging by what he said, I think Norden might be suffering from the mid-stages of anxiety. It will take a while, but I think I can help him recover.”

“That’s great.” The receptionist clapped his hands as he motioned to the traveler. “Norden, this is Zinc. He’s a good doctor. Maybe he can help?”

“Doctor? I don’t think you can help me. I’m possessed! I need an exorcist!” Norden shook his head upon hearing Zinc’s occupation.

“Well, some forms of ‘possession’, as you call it, could very well be a form of mental disorder…for example, extreme stress?”

    “E-Extreme stress? That can’t be.”

“Have you had trouble sleeping? Do you dream or constantly think about the events that happened from before? Do you feel disconnected from yourself and your surroundings? Have you blanked out a number of times and don’t remember what you have done during specific points of your day?”

    “Y-Yes, how did you know?”

“And you said you experienced a terrible incident? Such a happening can cause the symptoms I’ve listed.”

    “Is that so?”

“How about this? Let me help you out my way and we can see if you stop suffering from the ‘hauntings’ of yours.”

“Okay. At this point…I’m willing to try anything.”

    “That’s good.”

Zinc led Norden to his store and gave the traveler a more extensive diagnosis. Upon a closer look, the doctor found that Norden was also suffering from a feverish state. Before curing Norden’s stress, the doctor felt that it was necessary for him to cure Norden’s fever first. After all, the fever may have played a part in Norden’s delusions.

Zinc checked Norden’s skin and found some patches of inflammation. The inflammation seemed to converge at his back. Upon having Norden expose his back, Zinc saw a long, narrow wound. It was rotting and burning reddish purple. Norden was poisoned…mostly from some sort of bacterial infection.

Zinc reached back and pulled out a few acupuncture needles. Placing them at certain key points on Norden’s back, Zinc was able to numb the traveler’s back so that he won’t be able to feel what happened next. Once Norden cannot even feel his shoulders moving, Zinc began cutting away at the dead flesh. After cutting out the flesh, Zinc began squeezing out the pus and poisoned blood to clean the wound. Once that was done, Norden was able to recover from his fever.

Although the poison was squeezed out of the wound, the wound itself was prone to further infection. To disinfect the wound and detoxify the skin, Zinc needed to buy some salt to rub on the wounds. The dwelf had Norden rest while Zinc rushed out to buy some salt. The doctor didn’t go far when he found a peddler selling some premium quality salt.

“Premium salt! Selling premium salt! Not only does it taste good, it was even blessed by nobility as well as the temples.”

Zinc rushed over and asked. “How much for this bag of salt?”

“Three Large Copper coins per sack.” The peddler replied with confidence.

    “Three? Deal!”

After buying the salt, Zinc hurried back to Norden. He applied the salt on Norden and also fed him some salt water. While he put the leftover salt aside, Zinc ordered the traveler to relax while he applied some acupuncture on the man’s head to relief pain caused by migraines. Next, Zinc compiled an herbal powder made from crushing dried jujubes, licorice roots, and wheat. Mixing with some sleeping powder, Zinc poured the contents into a glass of water. After stirring thoroughly, the doctor administered the solution to the patient. Norden went to bed soon after drinking the potion.

The next day, Norden felt refreshed as he woke up from his deep slumber. Having not suffered any nightmares last night, Norden rushed to Zinc to report of the good news. Nodding, as if to be expected, Zinc gave Norden some more medicine. He told the middle-aged man to drink a glass of the medicine each day before going to sleep for about a week. After a week was up, Norden visited Zinc’s store early in the morning for a full-body checkup. It seemed that the week went by without any problems.

While Zinc finished preparing some light breakfast, Norden reported that he had stopped seeing the nightmares and was able to get a good night sleep each night. Although his head still throbbed a bit, Norden felt that he was almost completely treated. Upon hearing that, Zinc smiled at the small success and beckoned the traveler to sit down while he administered some acupuncture treatment to cure the headache.

Zinc inserted some needles glazed with fire into different points of Norden’s head, ending with the last needle in the traveler’s Upper Star acupoint. The Upper Star acupoint was located halfway between the top of Norden’s head and his forehead and was well known to suppress head pains. However, something strange occurred as soon as Zinc inserted the needle. To the surprise of both Zinc and Norden, a howling scream pierced the air and a black, gaseous substance flowed out from the insertion.

“What’s going on? How did this happen?” Although Zinc exclaimed this, he immediately thought back to something he glanced over a few months back. In his quest to expand his knowledge, he found a book that spoke about the ghostly points of a human body, specifically for treating supernatural possessions.

Zinc had dismissed it earlier as unfounded superstition, but he recalled that the Upper Star acupoint was similar to one of the ghostly acupoints – the Ghost Hall acupoint. Could the ghostly points be real? With no time to think as he saw the black gas began to converge into something more demonic. Zinc quickly looked around his store for anything that could be used to drive the spirit away. He tried the cross symbol as well as the pentagram, but nothing seemed to work.

Seeing the spirit draw closer to him, the doctor panicked and reached for the nearest item…his breakfast. With a hurl, he threw the salted butter toast at the spirit. To his surprise, the spirit coiled back in pain as a sizzling sound could be heard from where the toast struck the spirit. Could spirits be afraid of bread? Of breakfast? That couldn’t be. Zinc then remembered about the salt. Wasn’t it blessed by the temples? Holy salt!

Zinc rushed to his kitchen and grabbed a cup of the salt. With a fling, he threw the salt – cup and all – at the spirit. The salt slammed into the spirit, covering it with sizzling wounds. In a matter of seconds, the spirit disintegrated into nothingness.

As Zinc exhaled in relief, Norden shook out of his surprise and blurted out. “I told you I was possessed!”

After the ordeal, Norden thanked the doctor and left Nagrand to continue his travels while Zinc reported back to the guild about the situation.

"I guess I did what the task wanted but...I'm not really happy."
"I'm not too sure what he's up to, but I know where he hides at these days."

So said the old wizard. And so Elaine was here, staring at a hole in the ground.

"That's a pretty pitiful place for someone to hide in, really. And I thought goblin caves were the lowest of the low."

A 'cave' was already stretching it. More like a hole in the ground, in actuality.

"Well, there's no back doors that I know of, so this must be the only entrance, but I betcha ten bucks that he's either trapped it heavily or is watching the entrance. Let's not enter lightly."

After some small thinking, Elaine arrived at the same conclusion that most people would have realized as well.

"Let's flush the prey out, then. In a way that would restrict him even if he manages to get out, if possible."

Her first reaction was to toss a lit torch inside and burn the whole place down, but her senpai who loved the wilds would probably not be pleased.

"Hmm…something that doesn't destroy nature as much as a fire...I dunno. Maybe I should just roll a huge stone over the entrance and cover it? But that's a lot of effort on my side, and then there won't be any air---huh."

Flushing the prey out in a panic. Simple solution, really, except not really.

"Well, let's get to work. This would be better if I had a metal shovel, really, but I guess I'll have to improvise."

    ***

A few hours later, as the sun crested the hill and started making its descent, Elaine finished on her little project. Then she sat on the ground, resting while eating some wild apples for energy.

"So tired. Hopefully this one pays off!"

With a casual air about her, she knocked aside a boulder that had been beside her, watching it tumble down the slope for a few seconds noiselessly…

    *Rumble*

During the previous few hours, Elaine had gone digging. Using gouts of water from her water magic, she had carved out trenches and gouts in the loose soil, repeating the process until there was a line of trenches between the hole in the ground and---

The river roared, branching off and heading down the new path that had been made for it. Elaine watched on, bemused, as it crashed down the slopes with sheer ferocity, and headed right for the hole.

Except for digging out the path, she had not used Water Magic in the slightest. That's why seeing the rushing river gave her a rush too.

Then the water poured into the small entrance, and started filling the cave below. Over the crashing waves, Elaine thought she heard a surprised shout.

"There it is. The fish has slipped the net."

Quietly, she wondered why evildoers always seemed to have a fondness for caves. They were damp and dirty, and besides being somewhat ignored by most people, had no other advantages.

Besides, the idiot who picked this kind of cave to hide in was just plainly asking for it. Only one entrance, and the cave was between a deep valley, when it was already in a lower area!

The flow of water started to lighten up, as the carrying capacity of the cave neared it's limit and the water started pooling over. Elaine walked over, stooped down, and regarded the man-made pool she had created. Bubbles of air slowly floated their way to the top.

"He couldn't have drowned that easily---Oh, I know!"

She walked into the water as well, crouching down to wait just beside the entrance. Every now and then, she would duck her head out above the water surface, take a few deep breaths, and then come back down.

But nothing appeared. Elaine waited a bit more…

    Still nothing.

"Ehm. He didn't drown, surely? That would be the lamest death ever for a black magic practitioner."

Then she spotted a trail of bubbles rising, forming a neat straight line, and spotted a motionless body in the water.

    "Uhh, so he can't swim…"

Shrugging, she grabbed the body by the arm, and dragged it upwards with her. Then she unceremoniously threw it onto the dry ground, and felt his wrist. There was a small heartbeat.

"Hm, not dead. Guess he's alive then."

She noticed something else; a small black wisp curling around the old man's torso. It passed right through her hand as she tried to grab it, before detaching itself from the motionless body. Then it started floating off.

    "Hah?"

The fact that it looked like an egg was rather unsettling. If it was an egg, she definitely did not want to see it hatching.

"I'll put an end to you right here! Mana Bla---!"

She was only holding out one of her blades, but as she channeled mana into it, the other blade unsheathed itself and joined together with the first one at the pommels. A string of energy stretched taut between the two blade tips.

    A bow.

"There's a function like this?! Wait, there's no time for that! It's getting away!"

Vaguely, she pulled on the bowstring, and an arrow conjured itself out of thin air. It flew towards the fleeing black mist.

    And missed. Not surprising, really.

Before she had the time to draw another, the black mist-like object darted into the ground, and vanished completely.

"Tch! Well, at least the old guy is fine---What the…"

The body of the old man, whom she was sure was still alive up until a few minutes ago, was rapidly shrivelling up and withering. As she looked on, it turned into ashes and blew away into nothingness in the breeze.

"So that's the price of black magic, huh. What a pity."

And then she tripped over a rabbit.

"How do I turn this off?!"
Spiral Shot: When Elaine needs to hit the target from afar, her two blades join together to form the shape of a bow. The resulting mana arrow fired is more accurate and deadly compared to a mana blade projectile, since the longbow gives her better accuracy and optics than using her blade as a channeling tool.

Elaine gets over encumbered by holding both blades in one hand, and the bow's length makes movement more difficult. In addition, the bow magnifies her vision as she shoots, but does not automatically zoom back out until a while later. Walking around with a zoomed in vision may easily lead to tripping over rabbits and other small objects.

"Pfft. I... didn't expect that. Guess Norden won in his own way, eh? He proved that he was right after all.", after reading the report with a slight chuckle. Gaap stretched his arms and handed out the rewards to Zinc.

"You have done a good job. Pretty ironic how Norden was possessed when you clearly put aside this possibility, eh. A--nyway, here are your rewards. 11 Large Copper Coins, you also get 4 Guild Points as well."
"That's understandable... rather a shame. If Askel was bit more knowledge regarding black magic, curses or so... oh well. No use talking about that, is there?", after a sigh, Gaap looked at Elaine and continued to speak as he searched for the rewards.

"Nevertheless, you have done the job. Hill Frank is literally resting after all. Anyway, your reward, you get 72 Large Copper Coins and 16 Guild Points. Ho-"
The receptionist stopped speaking and shook his head.
"I was going to say 'Hope it continues like that' but having a corpse isn't so good."

"It'd have been great to know about the whole unrequited love matter beforehand. Whole thing would have been much simpler if I had that piece of knowledge at the start...Haah."
"The information doesn't tell me much."

Binah grumbled, scrutinizing the necklace in her palm.

"So the statue's in a cave. Wonderful. I'm sure there's only a single cave across the whole mountain range."

'Near the Caves of the Dead' would have sounded like a great hint for most people. Unfortunately, they tended to forget the fact that the Caves of the Dead spanned a good portion of the underside of the mountains. So the hint was basically useless.

The wind whispered useful things to those that listened carefully sometimes, but even that had its limits. Winds blew over open plains, not underground in some damp and smelly cavern system.

Blast a hole in the mountain range? Great idea!...if she was still thirty years old, maybe. Also, Elaine said that such matters tended to draw unfavourable criticism.

"So troublesome. I miss the old days…Guess I'll have to do this instead."

So Binah simply walked into the main entrance of the Caves, stopping after a couple of turns inside. Watching and waiting.

    "Hmm."

Taking out the necklace that was the quest item, she appraised it a little.

"Smells of freshly cut grass after a storm. I'm guessing it contains traces of Nature Magic? But then, why would a Lich be in possession of such a necklace, when objects attuned to life energy can deal damage to it just by proximity alone…? This is all quite fascinating and all, but it tells me nothing of use. Looks like a headache is unavoidable…"

Concentrating harder, she glared at the necklace for a few seconds, before gasping as she turned away. Her left hand was already messaging her head.

"Ugh, three seconds is still my limit."

The smell tipped her off long before the sound did; the pitter-patter of unsteady footfalls against the rough stone flooring. Raising her eyebrows, Binah glanced down one of the corridors, her vision barely impeded in the gloom.

    It was empty.

"I'm getting older...Ah, here you are."

A trio of skeletons entered the room through another corridor, purplish fires burning in their empty sockets. Old weapons still clasped in their cold, dead hands, they advanced towards her.

"If I'm not wrong, beating a certain number summons a Hellhound. Time to get to work."

    *****

There was a red-coloured pup by her feet. It was shivering, whimpering, and generally looked extremely sorry for itself.

"Fifty skeletons...I should have just started Soul-Trapping after the twentieth one, and by the fortieth I would have had a Soul Marker. Stupid dog."

The unfortunate dog trembled even more. Most hellhounds roasted rash warriors minutes after they were born. This one experienced flying across the room at bone-breaking speeds, getting pummeled to half an inch of unlife, then stepped on and nicknamed Stupid Dog.

Having its fiery breath swallowed and then redirected right back at itself with even more ferocity had been a frightening experience, to say the least. It was in no hurry to offend the girl any longer, so it did it's best to appear pitiful instead.

“Drop the act and get up before I turn you into a Soul Marker. The method is not strictly proper, but it’s not illegal either.”

The pup hurriedly complied, getting to it's feet and making it's way over to her side. There was a vast difference, but it's clumsiness reminded her of Elaine, and she smiled.

"Now, let's put that famous nose of yours to a small test. Smell anything like this before?"

The hound took a good long whiff, before it's tail wagged furiously, and it barked out in the affirmative---at least, she hoped it was in the affirmative.

    *****

In the end, the hellhound got them lost three times. She had some unexpected encounters with a trio of egg-throwing ghouls (long story), a domino tower made of skeletons (longer story) and a homely ghost bard who clearly did not have an ear for music. The first two she eradicated; the last one she let free out of sheer pity (after smashing his instrument and warning him never to sing again). She'd also have cooked the hellhound for supper by now, but even getting lost repeatedly reminded her...rather painfully...of a certain girl.

After she had exorcised yet another batch of undead with her fists, they stumbled across the room in question. That was when the hellhound paused at the doorway, curled up, and started trembling once more. When she tried to pick it up and enter, it struggled in her grasp, so Binah had to put it down.

So she entered the gloomy darkness by herself.

There was a sticky feeling to the air, like she was walking through invisible spider webs, but she waved that feeling away and advanced. She'd gotten about five steps in…

Immediately, the room sealed itself off, and the only visible exit disappeared behind her. The source of light from the corridors outside vanished as well, throwing her into complete darkness.

    "...Just wonderful."

Beastmen had superior night vision, but darkvision was a trait native to elves. Without magic, she was effectively blind in the dark. So when the silenced arrow came whistling through, aiming for her unarmoured chest---

    "How cute."

---She slashed it into two halves without bothering to look, and both pieces fell silently by her feet.

"Well? If a single poisoned arrow was all you had against invaders, then you better reconfigure your defences. What's next?"

As if in reply, spikes extended out from the ceiling and the walls, stabbing towards her from all sides. Only a small corner remained untouched by the activated trap.

    "Nifty."

Just before the extended spikes could pierce her skin, they vanished into thin air, leaving Binah right where she had been ten seconds ago.

Illusion magic. And holes had opened up on either side of her; moving carelessly earlier would have resulted in a messy death by spikes.

Taking no more notice as the holes closed behind her, Binah continued striding forward into the darkness, her eyes continuing to adjust.

    "Ah, there's the statue."

Uneventfully, she arrived at the statue, and studied the stonework; interlinked lines overlapping to create an incredibly lifelike piece. The statue's face was smiling serenely, completely out of tune with the gloominess of the caves that it resided in...perhaps it was also a symbol of better times.

But there was a slight problem.

"I'm going to assume that when he said 'goddess', it was more of a term of endearment rather than a literal fact, because no matter how I see it, this is a naiad."

Nature spirits existed in many forms. There were the literal ones like treants and ents, basically walking and talking trees, and then there were spirits like dryads and naiads, which were spirits born of nature. In this case, naiads were said to be born of rivers, and while they were quite gentle, they could wield powerful Nature magic.

"Seeing an angry one is quite rare, though…And even the angry ones don't usually affect their surroundings like this. To start with, why would a naiad be found underground? There is none of the fresh breeze and clear waters which they enjoy."

It didn't bother her, but she could feel malice directed towards her from an unknown source. And more than that, she felt...sorrow. The presence that was with her was more forlorn than anything else, and it showed.

Binah shook her head, taking out the necklace that she had been given. She was about to lay it at the statue's feet when she hesitated.

The intricate statue suddenly made a lot more sense to her. As with the lack of craftsmanship---it was not created by carving. The 'statue' itself was the very same naiad she'd seen earlier, in the fragmented scenes she'd been allowed to see.

Even if people did come to seek out this statue, how many of them would have made it to this point successfully? Over the decades, a thick layer of dust and ash had cloaked the statue, covering much of it's radiance.

    "...Hah."

The gentle breeze blew off the layer of dust, and Binah instead reached out and fastened the necklace around the statue's neck.

"Well? You know who this necklace belonged to, right? He sends his regards."

A quiet sigh echoed around the room, and with it came the sound of rumbling rock. The statue vanished into nothingness along with the necklace, and the blocked entrance cleared itself, allowing light to filter into the now empty room.

"Love is quite the troublesome matter, hah…Especially one that's gone unanswered for centuries."

Then she kicked the hellhound, which had been dozing off at the entrance; with a shocked yelp it woke up.

"C'mon, let's get out of here. You can go free once we reach the exit...oh, more enemies?"

She turned around to the darkened section of the corridor which they did not come from; her eyes caught a glimpse of a corner right ahead, and her ears picked up movement beyond that bend.

    *hiss*

"That's a weird sound for a snake to...WHAT THE FU---"

    *****

She would later reflect that, if nothing else, the event made her aware that it was quite possible to modify a lightning blast into a fire blast instead, and that it was all too possible for an accidental gust to create an artificial firestorm.

But hey, at least the Caves of the Dead remained alright. The corridor she was in and a few subsequent ones all collapsed from the explosions, but other than that, it was all fine.

That ought to be fine, right?

    Right?

    "We are back!"
Before going into the Plains of the Eidolons, we stopped at the Capital City of Peoina to buy supplies and ask the information the Plain from citizens. We was buying rations and bag for our journey in the general store.

“Fen. We also need this” Shia picked up a tent bag on the floor and put it on the counter.

    “No, we don’t.” Replied Fen.

“Then why are you gonna buy those metal stakes for!?”

    “Aren’t these throwing spikes?”

    “Obviously not!”

In the end, we bought papers, pen, ̶t̶h̶r̶o̶w̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶s̶p̶i̶k̶e̶ tent peg, binoculars, and a bag filled with rotect jars. We heard that there is no town in the Plain except the native’s villages, so we went to the mountain range in the west first.

    ___

After four days with the help of tattoo powers, I finally reached the white snowy plain, I was confused since the area in the south tends to be warm. The mountains in the back are very high and covered with snow unlike the most in Nyllia, There is usually snowstorm on the slope to peak but not in the bottom area so I spotted most of the creatures in the snow plain. I walked down to south a bit and build an igloo near some trees and bushes. Around my camp, I normally saw small to medium size herbivores and predators such as snow rabbits, foxes, wolves, venison, eagles, and fluffy ball with tusk, I assumed those are something called elephant or mammoth. I also found a edible plant, It has no taste but spicy and give a bit of warm sensation through my body, I collected and put them in rotect jar.

During the third day on the snow plain, there is a wyvern with a white and grey striped pattern like a tiger on its skin came down from the mountain range to hunt mammoths for food. I watched it roams through it snow hurting small predators that invading its territory from faraway using binoculars.

The wolves are usually active in the night to avoid the wyvern. It seems there is no undead or plague spreading around this area so I came down after I tried to locate the cave that wyvern live.

There is a huge grassland with a large number of herbivores when I left the South Gelu(snow plain) in the east. I haven’t spotted any monster so far until I reach the forest, I’ll call this forest ‘Hourglass forest’ since the tree around the centre area is narrow down making it looks like hourglass. In the wood, It is really suitable to be called survival of the fittest. Herbivores in this area have a weapon to defend themselves like horn and claws. There are also vultures spreads around the forest to clean up a dead carcass. I had a hard time finding something to eat in this forest because when I killed something, animals and monsters rushes to my place due to the smell of blood. I spent more time there compared to the snow hills even It was difficult to find a safe place to observe these monsters’ behaviour. This forest is a dense forest with tall grasses, reptiles like a snake can easily hide and lurk on its prey.

After a few days, I found two large monsters that seem to be apex predator in this forest. First one is a giant ape with a bit of intelligent, it got a bunch of small apes following him to gather food and scout the area. The small ape mostly observes other monster dens like a goblin and wait for an opportunity to steal their food. They also use a weapon made for wood and stone to fight, so these small guys might learn from their leader or possess their own intelligence.

Another one is three-tailed flame drake which is in the west, It got good eyesight and really territorial. I thought it was just regular three-tail drake until it broke up a fight against the giant ape around the centre of the forest. It can breathe fire and cover its body with flame when fighting. From observing the fight between the drake and giant ape, its scale seems hard and good for fire and heat resistance.

When we exited the forest, we found abandoned villages which looks like they have been attacked by the monsters. There were broken potteries, scribbles on the walls, and some cultural tools(?) made from wood and claw. Then we spotted the first villages, or rather a settlement in the northeast of first abandoned village we found. I decided not to enter the settlement since I didn’t know their language or they might be hostile towards outsiders, but from their tools, I was pretty sure that they are the same tribe as abandoned villages. I travelled through this land searching more settlements of this tribe.

The terrain that the tribes settled in is similar to a plain between snow and forest but with more water sources and trees. I encountered kobolds several times near the villages and lizards men in the swamp near the sea. And these native people had their village near the river or pond, they got some kind of culture where men will hurt down crocodile in the water and take its fangs and claws to make a necklace.

    ___

“What is this place? It looks horrible.”

After a month of exploring, I came across the land with black soil that reeking stink smells, it’s located around one of the branch rivers. The dead fish and birds were floating on the river and the tribesmen turned into either mutant looking zombie or ghoul. The black colour slowing spreading around but it might spreads through the water faster when it reaches the mainstream.

“Fen, can we go? I can’t deal it this stench.”

“Yeah, we will cancel the search in the north and head straight to Nagrand.”

I took the sample of water, soil and dead plant in leftover rotect jars before I left that place. During the way back, I crossed the desert in the north, there is a lot of insect-type monsters around there, the GIANT centipedes disgusted me.

I'm not sure what happened there, but I highly recommend getting the appropriate information with the requester in the next time you feel the information is lacking, Binah-san.

I'm afraid we got no information on any love story from "Mister Skeleton" himself either, so we couldn't have provided you that though.

Good job out there I suppose? Your rewards are 11 Large Copper Coins and 4 Guild Points.

    Take care now~

    Welcome back Fen-san~

That's a pretty through report, good job out there, I have nothing else to say~

Your reward will be of 24 Large Copper Coins and 8 Guild Points, take care now~

((Gonna take me a while to update the map, but thanks for going as far as putting stuff in the map to represent the things you found! I can't use it as is because it has a bit too many thingies and gives too little space for anyone that tries adding further stuff to it in the future, but I'll surely use it as basis! ^^)/))

Task: Dewloren, the Tiger King of the Ice Barrier
    Requester: Lyra, the Alchemist
    Quest Rank: D-rank
    Rewards: 21 Large Copper Coins
Description: To the Northeast of the Moon Village, around 60km away from it, there lies a lake that had frozen over during spring for mysterious reasons, it also caused a veeeeery unusual weather.
After the cause of it was discovered... Nothing was done about it! And so the lake kept frozen, the weather kept terrible and the villagers had no choice but to move away! >.<
Well, after a while though, it seems the lake cracked and a really big blue tiger came out of it, and it proclaims himself as Dewloren, the Tiger King of the Ice Barrier... Yeah, really chuuni name... And you wanna know what the Ice Barrier is? Well, no clue on that!
But uhn... He is kinda aggressive, like... He doesn't attack people on sight, but he proclaims his chuuni title if anyone gets close and warns them if they get any closer they'll have to face his wrath...
I'm kinda dying of curiosity to know what this is all about, but I'm also worried for this mega abnormal weather and stuff, so... Try doing something about it? Dunno, beat Dewloren in honorable combat, convince him to explain things, or... Find some way to discover what this is all about please!

Upon hearing about this quest, Zinc immediately thought back to his previous adventure with the Great Tiger Lordvoyg. Maybe this new tiger monster was related to Lordvoyg in some way or another. Zinc recalled that Lordvoyg had branded him and they shared some blood together, which now that he thought about it, made them somewhat like blood half-brothers.

So that’s why Lordvoyg said we were brothers last time. Zinc murmured inwardly as he read through the quest.

Apparently, earlier this year, a quest was issued to explore and discover the cause of the unusually cold weather near the Moon Village as well as the frozen lake located 60 kilometers northeast of the village. According to the reports, an adventurer barely escaped with his life and only managed to procure a strange stone that was cold to the touch.

After reading through the previous reports, Zinc began preparing for the trip. The doctor packed layers of clothing, warm food, as well as warm herbs – herbs that can provide heat upon consumption such as ginseng. Once preparations were completed, Zinc headed out. On this trip, he decided not to bring his pets for fear that they could not resist the poisonous cold.

And so, Zinc headed out towards Moon Village. Traveling by horse-drawn carriage, he arrived at the deserted village in nearly a week. As he neared the village, he could immediately feel the effects of the cold weather. To prevent frostbite, Zinc quickly dressed in more layers. In addition, he had also cut off a few bite-sized ginseng roots to munch on.

With his body warmed up enough to resist the cold weather, Zinc headed towards the frozen lake. The closer he got to the lake, the colder it became. Soon, no matter how many layers Zinc wore and no matter how many warm herbs and food Zinc consumed, he was unable to approach any closer. Judging the distance between the lake and him, the doctor estimated it to be around 50 meters.

Thinking that since he couldn’t approach the lake any closer, he had no way of completing the quest. Zinc prepared to head back when suddenly, a loud roar pierced the snowy skies.

    “Who goes there?”

A huge, blue tiger leaped out from behind some debris and peered at the dwelf. Zinc gulped as his body ached from the immense pressure given off of the monstrosity. After a short pause, Zinc replied with effort. “My name is Zinc! I’m an adventurer tasked with finding out the cause of this cold weather as well as the reason for the lake’s current situation.”

“Hmph! Did you not know that anyone who comes close to the lake would suffer my, Dewloren’s, wrath?”

    “I-I’ve heard about it.”

“And you still dare to come? What guts!”

“Please sir, allow me to investigate the lake.” Zinc asked politely as he took a step towards the frozen lake.

However, the blue tiger suddenly roared with piercing ferocity. “How dare you!”

Under the immense pressure of the tiger’s bloodlust, Zinc couldn’t help but tried to lessen the pain with an aura of his own. Unleashing his own Tiger Aura, Zinc was able to lessen the weight on his shoulders.

Dewloren, surprised by the dwelf’s tiger-like resistance, increased his power threefold, forcing Zinc to his knees. Unable to sustain the force of the pressure, Zinc blacked out. However, in the midst of his unconscious state, a powerful aura rushed out and nearly pushed back Dewloren’s aura. This surprised the blue tiger…so much so that he retracted his aura and gaped at the young doctor.

Zinc only blacked out for a few seconds. As soon as he woke up from his coma, the first thing he saw was Dewloren peering down at him with interest.

“Boy. Where did you get that aura?” Dewloren barked as soon as he saw Zinc open his eyes.

“What aura? You mean Tiger Aura? I got it from some bandits.”

“No. I mean this aura.” Dewloren replied as he pointed at Zinc’s chest, where a scar had formed. This was the place where Lordvoyg stabbed Zinc with his claw. Could Dewloren be asking about that?

“I got it from Lordvoyg.” Zinc answered truthfully. “Do you know of him?”

“Do I know of him? Hahaha!” Dewloren roared with laughter. “Lad, Lordvoyg is a grandnephew of mine. You guys have become brothers. You can call me Uncle Dewloren.”

“T-This…fine. Uncle Dewloren…can you tell me why you are driving people away from this lake?”

“Since you can be considered family, I’ll tell you. I am originally an immortal beast. I was tasked by a dear friend to guard this lake.”

“Is there something worth protecting in that lake?” Zinc asked curiously.

“Not worth protecting…but, rather, worth preventing from escaping.”

    “Oh? Don’t tell me….”

“That’s right. My friend sealed a powerful fire demon in the lake. I will tell you this. Hundreds of years ago, this place wasn’t a lake, but rather a gigantic volcano. During the fight between my friend and the demon, the volcano was flattened into a huge crater. The demon was sealed in the center of the crater. Over time, rain filled the crater and created the lake you see today.”

“If it’s a fire demon, why is it so cold here and not hot?”

“That’s due to my ice abilities. With my superior ice magic, I could suppress the fire demon. However, some ‘heroes’ mistook me for a demonic beast and attacked me without notice. Now, normally, I could easily defeat those heroes, but I spent most of my focus preventing the demon from escaping that I carelessly slipped up and suffered some irreparable damage. And because of that, I could feel the demon attempting to escape. In a last-ditch effort to save my life and to prevent the demon from escaping, I froze myself along with the seal.”

Oh, I see! So that’s what the giant boulder, the previous adventurer described, was. Zinc thought as he took a few minutes to understand everything that was going on. Wait, if Dewloren escaped from the frozen state, then won’t the seal be close to breaking as well?

When Zinc asked Dewloren this, he explained to me that this was the reason he was driving away everyone from the lake. It was to protect them. If the villagers didn’t leave and the demon broke free from the seal, they would be the first to suffer the demon’s wrath.

“I understand. I will report this back to the guild.” Zinc immediately prepared to head back after hearing Dewloren’s story.

“Ah, young lad, before you go. Have this.” Dewloren tapped Zinc’s forehead with his claw.

Immediately, a stream of information flowed into the doctor’s head, causing a splitting headache. When the pain subsided, Zinc found that he had learned a new skill – Icy Touch. Zinc thanked Dewloren and rushed back to the guild to report his findings. Given the urgency in Dewloren’s tone, there probably was less than a month’s time before the demon broke free.
