Do people really shit themselves once one have been surprised or scared?

I'm curious since it didn't happen to me even once...
But well, curiosity killed the cat

 

You can pee yourself if scared I suppose... shit seems hard standing up

 

Yes, people may poop and/or pee when nervous/scared.
And they also may poop and/or pee when they die.

But anyway, shit? Nah... But i remember my female cousin who got scared shitless going to a graveyard in the night, she literally peed hard on the spot....

I haven't experienced that so I can't tell. It could be explained if the muscles relaxed or something but I don't think someone would do that while scared

 

Yes on both accounts... it was really easy to startle my ex-wife....

 

There's also the concept that it's a survival function from long ago that when our ancestors were attacked by wild animals it happened with the hopes that the smell would drive them away.

 

I believe incontinence is actually something that happens (sometimes?) when people die. Perhaps if the intense fear induces the feeling of impending death then incontinence can also occur.
