Doesn't stop it from being low quality clickbait now, does it?

just saying, but the original translator of Reverend Insanity was pushed to stop by qidian, after which they started translating it under the name daoist gu (if i remember right) and changed a lot of terms to ones that didn't really fit the story.

this delayed translating for months as they went back to change it after a lot of people (rightfully) complained.

anyway, i'm not completely against qidian, any good story on there i will read on their site until thy ask for spirit stones, ̶t̶h̶e̶n̶ ̶i̶ ̶j̶u̶s̶t̶ ̶g̶o̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶a̶ ̶p̶i̶r̶a̶t̶e̶d̶ ̶v̶e̶r̶s̶i̶o̶n̶. cough, i mean, then i pay what is the equivalent of 50 bucks in spirit stones every few hundred chapters, like a ̶s̶t̶u̶p̶i̶d̶ ̶p̶i̶g̶ ̶r̶a̶i̶s̶e̶d̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶s̶l̶a̶u̶g̶h̶t̶e̶r̶ ̶w̶a̶l̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶u̶t̶c̶h̶e̶r̶'̶s̶ ̶t̶a̶b̶l̶e̶ ̶w̶i̶l̶l̶i̶n̶g̶l̶y̶ good little boy.

Sorry your point does not even stand on two legs.

If Qidian didn't pay the author, you won't have heard of Reverend Insanity since it would have just been some unknown author writing on an unknown blog.
You mentioned that Qidian made Skyfarrow stop and called it Daoist Gu but why did the name change back ?
Unlike the idiots on here I rely on facts. I don't force my opinions down people's throats.
I spoke to Skyfarrow who got hired by Qidian translated for a while before someone else took over.
    Grow up!

The title was changed after I replied.......probably

Don't forget to reply with this in the other thread. Replace the novel names with your favorite JP novels, ofc.

since you want me to "grow up" i'll give it a go! here's the first thing, a point doesn't have one leg, let alone two, it's in the very definition of point.

secondly, i am not forcing my opinion down anyone's throat, i shared my opinion on a board filled with others' opinions. i did not force you to read, nor did i force you to reply. frankly, i do not like your tone, but it is your opinion, so that's alright.

thirdly, i was pretty sure the first translator was pushed out completely by qidian, but you might be right that i am wrong, it's honestly been a while, and i'm not gonna look for what was what, but i'll remember that i might be wrong and memorise it as "unknown", it's lazier, but i'm lazy so that's alright!

fourthly, can you say fourthly? it sounds weird to me... anyway, moving on.

fifthly, the biggest letdown from qidian for me was all the lies and empty promises they made right at the start. i can understand the greed for money when they stand to gain it, but i hate being played for a fool. it's why i have never spent any money on the site, and my account there is linked to a nonexistent twitter (i still find it strange that it still works while the twitter was deleted, but all the better for me) as i adamantly refuse to give them any private information of mine. it's mostly my pigheadedness, pettiness and a bit of useless passive-agressiveness on my part, but it helps vent a bit so why not, right?

that's about my opinion on the matter, i think.

oh, also added that to read stories on their site while paying is outrageously expensive for a book. i could buy a hardcopy irl and it would probably still be cheaper!

that was the last of it.

Ninethly, can I say ninethly? Lol
Just as you were venting, I was also venting, it was not all directed at you.
I am not talking about hearsay, I actually spoke directly to Skyfarrow.
This community likes to conveniently blame everything on Qidian.
Two wrongs don't make a right.

On the cost, yes it is a lot but books are a luxury not a human right.
What if we applied that to Apple and say it's too expensive so stealing their iPhones is better?
Besides, you can create multiple accounts and get unlimited spirit stones.
Everything in life has a cost, someone has to pay for it.
If sites like Qidian do not make writing a viable profession for a majority we won't get such great books.
The western model to read books for free is not sustainable.
Qidian has made many unknown authors into millionaires.
    Amazon cannot do the same

ah, you seem to have misunderstood, i do not mean there should be no cost, i mean they should not scam people by putting small prices on each chapter so they don't notice it becomes a huge price for everything.

it's the same with dlc's, and micro-transactions. they are made taking into account people's general behavior when buying things, and then pushed as far and -more importantly- as expensive as they can go without too much backlash.

this is not just qidian, it's more and more companies. i understand that it is a good policy to take into account people's behaviour and adapt to it, but there's a difference between using and abusing.

Spoken like someone with zero acumen for business.
Games with their lootboxes and stuff are certainly exploitative but this is a book
It is no different from Harry Potter having 10 books or TV shows having 20 seasons and you have to buy so many seasons
It is tangible content, it is different from games that are just gambling
Yes people inflate word count but books are not games.
Small prices use is called microtransaction and protect you.
Munpia, Ridibooks, Lezhin, kakao etc all use it.
It is simply the entitled mentality in the West that seems to think authors dont have value.
    Books should be free etc
You can spend $0.50 and decide to drop the book
instead of buying something for $20 that you end up not wanting

P.S. I know that being a cynic is cool and all but Chinese novels being long is not for sinister reasons. It is cultural, Jin Yong novels are also very long.
Sometimes, people are not out to get you, they are just living their lives.
Consider webnovel volumes as one book. Having a series has 20 books is not so odd.
You have US book series that are that long and have been going on for as long as 30 years
I cannot recall the book but it is written or rather started by a lady and they are lots of books in the series and many were written by ghostwriters allegedly
