Have to agree with you one Dies Irae and Umineko. Hands down the best mystery and fantasy Japanese visual novels. Might as well add Steins;Gate and Fata Morgana no Yakata VNs. In addition, if you can read Japanese, Soukou Akki Muramasa and Baldr Sky Dive series are a must.

Honestly, Tales of Demons and Gods was my very first light novel, and is still one of my favorites, if only it was updated often.

 

Absolutely. Even its plots are not so much up and down. But overall speaking, it's a novel worth reading.

Reborn as my Rival’s Wife best feel good story to read after reading a tragic novel/manga/anime. the MC and ML are to cute together. Doubles that the MC is once a man so you can think its somewhat like a Yaoi novel

It's pretty good. It's not the most focused novel and the plot isn't the tightest, but the characters are developed quite well and with a intriguing and believable setting. The grammar is generally impeccable with solid prose. It's not really a dark fantasy though, so ignore that.

 

As long as the grammar isn’t to story jerking. I’m fine with it. Character development is also a good point, but it’s also just a secondary consideration. All I need to know is weather the story is interesting or not. And what’s a good major attention grabbing feature in the novel.

The main feature of it, imo, is the MC, Blackmail, who is essentially a goblin who is kinda adopted by a human. This colors his outlook on many things and the most impressive aspect of the story is how realistic everything is portrayed. Everything happens quite naturally, which is partly why the story can feel so meandering because that's how life often is.

One of my favorite parts of the story early on is when they go to Daggerpoint, a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Blacknail does of cool and humorous things.
