Young rattan? Do people really eat that? How does it look and how is it cooked?

Ai chan loves bamboo shoots, stingray, chicken, kucai (chinese leek), beef, mango, petai (stink bean) and chilli.

Absolutely hates eggplants, durian and pumpkin. Basically anything slimy and soft goes straight to the trashcan. Ai-chan has no problem if family wants to eat them, but Ai-chan will never eat them.

yea, it's one of traditional ingredient for dayak's cuisine. you should be heard one if you life at Borneon Island.
    here's some of the recipe..
[IMG] Note: If you live somewhere other than Southeast Asia, you will have a difficult time sourcing ingredients for this recipe. However, substitutes are available to recreate this dish. Use heart of palm or bamboo in place of rotan singkah for its texture. In this case, you can forego the first step of the recipe. Keladi is taro and can be substituted with another starchy root, such as cassava or sweet potato. Instead of terong asem, use tamarillo, tomatillo or green tomatoes; the sour flavor is important. And finally, daun salam can be substituted with bay leaf. (https://aslifoodproject.com/2018/05/31/recipe-juhu-singkah-ft-kalimantan-tengah/ )
