I want to say this is not a hate thread nor am I trying to pick trouble nor am I trying be woke or into racist arguments and such topics but I just can't agree with this, reason being, that it is stupid, like really stupid, just what in the world is Disney trying to do and accomplish by this?
I mean I understand the cause, but this is the most idiotic idea I ever heard, those people are clearly looking for trouble

I just wish they would leave the the little mermaid alone. Maybe redo it with new animation but keep the same voice track. I hate the new live action ones. Only maleficent was good. All the other ones sucked. I didn't even go watch Dumbo or Aladdin. So I'm not going to watch the new little mermaid.

    Yes they did :hmm:
Live actions aren't always great unfortunately, not just those of disney :blobflag:
More like, they stand for money :blobexpressionless:
Not everyone likes Aladdin it seems :blobsweat_2:
Actually, they should just make a new movie and leave the already made characters alone :blobokhand:

Both the animated and real life depictions are wrong.

The little mermaid has green skin! Stop implementing your homo sapiens ideologies and stick to the facts!

“They were six beautiful children; but the youngest was the prettiest of them all; her skin was as clear and delicate as a rose-leaf, and her eyes as blue as the deepest sea; but, like all the others, she had no feet, and her body ended in a fish’s tail.”

Excerpt from Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid”

Mermaids are historically tradtionally green skinned and mass murderers.

Is that the one with the sad ending, I don't think that will be good for something told to children :blobsweat_2:
I am pretty sure that will cause more of controversy :hmm:

Because I like myths I know of this and so I must say that you are confusing them for sirens :blobsweat_2:

My only objection is that a beloved Disney classic is being used as a political platform, in a time when politics surrounding race and gender are aggressively intolerant and irrational - on both sides of every fence.

That said, I do recognize that Disney films have always carried similar messages, and it's not unusual that every new remake should continue that. Disney films have ever been political. -- To begin with, The Little Mermaid has its own morals. It's not like it's a completely innocent children's tale with no message to convey.

Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pinocchio, Brave, Frozen -- What movie, from classics to modern day, has Disney ever made that did not deal with anything from gender roles to religious intolerance?

Aladdin would have been better if it was redone from the Genie's point of view. Was he born a genie or did he have a life before. What kind of masters had he had before. Exactly how long has he been alive but not free? Much better story then a ( vaguely) reverse Cinderella story.

Aladdin was actually fantastic. Really faithful to the original, with one minor/major exception (depending on your perspective) at the end, which arguably makes it a better movie. The scenes that you would expect to flop a bit with the transition to live action - Aladdin's intro, Genie's intro, Prince Ali's intro - were fabulous and not at all inferior to the original. Highly recommend the film.

And I say this as someone who generally considers live actions to be a bad joke.

The little mermaid. Are they gonna cast a teenager wearing clam shells and showing off her upper body the entire time on screen for some 2 hours or so?

for me this washing is the poor mans version of dangling a carrot infront of an Donkey.
how about using the native storys as basis to tell something new.
the storys of each nation have a big pool with many storys and sources to pull from.
why not develop new storys with delecate developed characters?

but for me is the color of the actor the LEAST important thing..
the script and the acting of the person is way more important

my biggest grind with these remakes they try to hit beat for beat the original story,
they could atleast play with the source and develop different aspects of it.
give it a new soul a new medium needs a new story
