    IDK about it IRL, but when it's in novels it always annoys me when the FL is not the master of her harem. Like her male pets all treat her like a fragile piece of glass meant to be jointly taken care of. No! I want my woman on top!

    That's not how healthy monogamous relationships work. You should have time apart, along with separate interests and their blessing to go off and pursue them. Even if you live together, you should be able to take some time in a room by yourself if you need it.
    A healthy monogamous relationship does not stifle.

    My advice would be not to try and use polyamory to escape dealing with your commitment or trust issues. From experience, it won't work - you'll only get yourself and others hurt.

    You need to be able to handle one relationship before you start trying multiple.

    The other (main) author that had a defining role in my acceptance of non traditional relationships is Jacqueline Carey. She has a lot of good stories, one set has the MC as a lesbian (for the yuri lovers out there).

    But the one that really influenced me, I started to read my senior year in high school, and it touches on a lot of...well, non traditional or mainstream sexuality.

    And that is her Kushiel series, set in a medieval Europe era but the religion and world history are different. JC is a world builder I look up to...the stories are 500+ page trilogy sets (3 in the same world but at different time periods). There are a lot of details and a lot of plot.

    Now, the reasons I say she influenced my views:
    1- the country she established has a culture of legalized sex trade. But it was done in a way that it was not a seedy or shameful affair. In fact, it is part of their religious beliefs (it's a long explanation I will leave out).

    2- the MC of the first trilogy (again I started in high school), was touched by the God of Punishment and took pleasure in pain. Needless to say that BDSM and masochism are a vital part of the story. But it was written in a way that, even though it shocked me, I was able to accept it as part of the story.

    There is probably more, but I won't go into them here.

    Other authors:
    Sharon Green, The Blending novels.
    They become a closed poly group

    Kristin Ashley, modern romance/erotica author. I know she usually writes MF monogamous, but there is at least one triad but I don't know the title of it.

    ...And that is all I can think of at the moment.

    A non monogamous relationship is actually harder work the a monogamous one. A lot more communication is needed.
