Is there some kind of discussion we're supposed to have about this? It's nice that authors are getting paid for their work but I don't even want to think about how many other CN authors are getting essentially nothing for every author that does well.

It's a lot of money and hopefully it's an inspiration to others, but i'm not sure if the CN market being so big (and maybe more homogeneous than an EN market? I can only guess) makes it easier to pull off this kind of thing in CN compared to anywhere else. That and the apparently popularity of online novels.

He truly deserves all the fortune coming his way, especially with how CN authors very commonly tend to overwork themselves. 2 Chapters a day. 3000+ characters. Do you have any idea how exhausting that is to keep up? These guys would literally be ruined if they missed a day at the wrong point in time.

It's the same everywhere. There are millions of English language published authors and only the 1% of the top 1% makes good money.

99.99% of all English published authors are working a day job. Only the lucky and the best makes a full time living as an author.

Of course the ratio's between successful/unsuccessful are similar everywhere, I never said that it wasn't. I was just wondering if a combination of available readers, more concentrated similarities in tastes, and more exposure to online novels in China made it slightly easier for some web authors to make money in comparison to people writing in English.

lets take a look at sports, hundreds of persons getting millions for loosing game after game just because their sport is liked

then we have other types of sports where the persons work as hard but dont have the recognition

this is no utopia, think about a zombie apocalypse would you be the movie hero running away from the zombies

or would you be one who runs after him

In china the longer your series, the more you will get paid. of course you will need to made it interesting and not dragging out the chp like most of the CN novel out there to be popular. tang jia san sao novel usually didn't have dragging novel like the audience getting uproar how the mc beaten other stuck up people, or getting stuff being repeated over over and over.

Yeah, why are you posting? He truly deserves it. Imagine if they are not getting that much money, they will then flock to the international market, like how japan did, then..you don't want to see Yenpress striking CN novels too, yes?

After all, he's THE KING of internet authors in China.

think about the translators of the novels, the novels which are liked will get more views and probably more donations so that more/faster translations appear

and what is big most times gets bigger

Even the better authors are still stuck work. Author of Malazan of the fallen for example made only 600,000 Euro off the whole series.

Prince of thorns author still works a day job.
