Look at your medical insurance card, go to your insurance website, find a different in network dentist.

You can have multiple dentists at any one time. You do not have to stick with just one.

Not really sure about dentist practices in the US, but when i was a teenager i had an accident that cracked my upper left incisor and broke the right one completely in half.
It completely exposed the nerve and i needed an emergency appointment.
The emergency appointment concisted of basically putting on a temporary ‘cap’. I had to go around with a half tooth in the front of my face for a few weeks before i could get a full cap put on. And then i had to wait until i was ‘fully grown’ before i could get a permanent crown put on.
I would highly advise against doing anything yourself.
It will not be strong/stable enough to eat with, and you could end up chipping it back off while eating and choking on it. Not to mention other horendous possibilities.

You should be able to get some kind of temporary cap put on, to protect any exposed nerve (if there is) as well as to prevent your tooth from cutting your mouth with the sharp edge.
Unless its only a slight chipping on the end and it poses no issue besides cosmetic. If thats the case, dont worry about it.

Weird, I live in America too and I was only advised to fill in one cavity while the dentist continued monitoring the other soft spots. You might want to change your dentist?

Unless it's an emergency, it shouldn't take you more than a week to get an appointment and a semi-annual cleaning isn't expensive for the benefit that it brings.

From their discussions in the background about how busy the day before was, I got the impression that my dentist accepted walk-ins if it were an emergency.

 

It simply tingles a bit at times, and it hasn't reached the gums.

 

My mom came back and I asked if we could go to another dentist, and she said that she'll go check when she goes to her appointment tomorrow.

 

That's great. It's better to check than end up in problems that will cost more money in the long run

 

I know others perhaps had said this, go to other dentist.
