Makes me wonder if there is a novel equivalent (better yet, NU equivalent) of this.
Legally, I think that the creator has the advantage should this become a debate over monetizing the ENG TL version of the game. But, I believe the translator should deserve the credits of the ENG TL the game, and should also at least have a share of the profit.
I think it is illegal to translate something without permission and distribute them to others, and it is also illegal for the creator of the original to take the translated version and sold them without any permission. It's like selling stolen items. Both the thieves and sellers are wrong. EDIT: I just realized, this is the same shit that Webnovel had been doing all along. So, where're the haters at?
fun fact, as long the creator didn't claim he stole translations and made a few change here or there he could have avvoided a lot of trouble.....but he had to boast about it on twitter
Its an effective way to get sued. Thankfully the translator probably likes them which is why they made a free English patch to encourage growth outside of the normal sale area, so he may not destroy them. But this is illegal and ungrateful. You can dmca the pirate site that's uploading your game, but the translator made a patch that required the game. He made a market out of every English speaking person where there was none before, on his own dime and time, and then didn't take a cent for it, not even donations or recognition. Guy is their biggest fan, and they're shitting on him over what an unrelated pirate site did with his stuff >=> (And I am making an assumption it's a guy, but it's a pretty likely assumption considering the content lol)
Maybe next time I message someone asking "hey do you mind if I translate your thing for free? I'm doing it as a hobby." I'll get a response.
Tell me why this isn't what Webnovel do? This person stole the translation of a fan and slap the official mark onto it and sell it. Literally the same.
