Reverend insanity - made me reevaluate myself in terms of my mindset, like in the roads to success, there's gonna be a lot of failures. And it's better to change myself first and relying on myself before others.

    Praise the Orc.

Made me rethink how I play games a little. Not completely but just a bit more attention paid to "NPCs".

The General series by S.M. Stirling and David Drake about general Raj Whitehall. Thanks for reminding me it exist, there was a newer book released in 2013.

So this is a thread about life or thought changing stories. I was hoping for something along the lines of a revelation that made you go back to reread things in their new context, aka stealth foreshadows.

The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman. Pretty much helped me realize how important culture can be in critical medical situations and importance of a good translator with culture understanding.

Door With Seven Locks ( I dont think that I ever finished it)
For web novels, Reverend Insanity. It impacted me so much that I also picked up a villain protagonist novel to translate

Is there something I'm missing about this series or is it one of those So bad that it's good?

You cannot be successful but just relying on yourself.
Fan Yuan learnt that the hard way, I guess it is shown later in the novel.
It is impossible to be truly successful by yourself.
No man is an island and we do not live in a vacuum.
The novel does toughen your will to survive regardless of failure though

I guess any novels that go into realism and details. They really open your eyes how you've been accepting of idealism or weakly explained powers and technology. Last I read was HP A Cadmean Victory which is a dark fic that shows how Harry loses his humanity yet struggles to keep it. Who wouldn't lose giving his abused childhood, public scorn, repeated attempts on his life and more, all this to an edgy teen, if it happened to me I'd pretty much try to burn the world. It also explains how you cannot simply be OP and save everyone, get a harem and whatnot. For example in some HP fics Harry captures Pettigrew and frees Sirius, however in reallity the ministry wouldn't just free Sirius and would simply sweep it under the rug, thus in Cadmean Victory Harry simply kills Pettigrew. Minor spoiler to whomever wishes to read the story, but you'll live.

What the actual f— did I just read. Such profound language. Such mastery in storytelling. I should just kill myself right now, nothing else will ever come close to the high that I got from reading that masterpiece.
