Mc brought walkie talkies and drones to ancient world. But don’t they need a radio tower and WiFi to work?

Yes, you are kinda right for cell phones and stuff...But I dont think short range walkietalkies are satellite based. As for drones...Idek how he is using them without some very powerful antennas and stuff, if there are no satellites.

I’m pretty sure you need a radio tower for walkie talkies. They have different frequencies on them after all. I feel like the author may be taking it for granted.

Walkie-talkie don't need anything else besides the walkie-talkie itself it have built in receiver and transmitter
Drone too if it say that it is radio controlled
Drone basically works like RC cars but with Xtra feature of having camera on the drone and screen on the controller

walkie talkies dont need radio towers but their range is small compared to those needing radio towers or antenaes

Not really. If you are running strictly on realism. Those items have may 8 hour of use before they have to be recharged. Hope the mc brought a lot of batteries.

Then what’s the point of radio towers and why do they have different frequencies? I’m genuinely curious if this is a mistake or not.

It is there to increase the range of the walkie-talkie without the towers the range is pretty much limited to about 1-2km if I'm not wrong the frequency is to set the channel for them to communicate without interference or having other tap into the channel you are using

Not an expert or anything but, a radio wave only goes so far so quickly before it is no longer concentrated. I guess just think of towers as relays in between each receiver.

A new stuff being add on, would't tht mean the battery is solar based?

What novel is this? Normally I would've used google and read more articles than the novel itself if I read something I didn't know. I thought this was clickbait at first.

Walkie talkie and drones (and remote) work with internal transmitter and receiver without the need for third device relays.

Wht will he do when the battery's running out if its not rechargeable, he also need some cable to connect the solar based stuff so tht it can receive some electricity right?

Both work without radio tower, sat, or other communication network. They have their own transceivers. High spec ones can even reach 5km or so. Different frequencies were to prevent interferences. Having multiple radio communication the same or near frequency will interfere with the signal. Radio towers are pretty much just big powerful transceivers which help relay communication, transmit something in wider area, etc. Mobile phones use them. Personal radios and most drones doesn't and cannot use towers as relay.

Recharging and maintenance would be a pain though. A solar panel plus converters, adapters, chargers a person can carry doesn't really provide much power for a drone. Drone also need maintenance. Radio on the other hand generally consume much less power and could last longer without maintenance.

(I'd give you my FCC call sign but that allows people to look me up at the ARRL site. Stupid FCC putting my information out there for folks to steal...)

I used to work with radars, radios, and the like.

Yes; radio waves will spread out (think of a ripple getting larger), so the further the receiver is from the transmitter, the worse the reception.

There are tons of solar chargers for hikers and campers. I use one when I do multi-day hikes. I'm thinking that the MC is using something similar.

those must be old walkie talkies, walkie talkies now even thouse costing around 10 -15 dollars can reach 8 km and those going above 50 dollar range can reach the 50km range

edit: of course those are assuming near perfect conditions but the ranges have really increased
