Recommendations Mecha anime

So, i'm craving some good mecha anime. Nothing with real romance and preferably no melodrama or tragedy. Nothing older than 80s at the earliest.
When i say mecha, im talking about big robots etc and NOT stuff like IS.

Mecha anime i've liked: Gunbuster, Diebuster, Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse, Gunparade March, Gunparade Orchestra, Vandread, Rinne no Lagrange, Gargantia, Heavy Object, Isekai Sekishi Monogatari, Knights & Magic

Ones i havent like: Schwarzesmarken
Ones that are meh: Full Metal Panic

Unbelievable, not a single gundam nor transformers series amongst all that mecha you watched? what about Gurren lagann or evangelion?
Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari? Code geass?
Zoids?
Hamos, the green chariot?
RESTOL Special Rescue Squad?
Ninja Senshi Tobikage?
Maybe 'Dennō Bōkenki Webdiver'?

 

Kakumeiki Valvrave, Buddy Complex and Gundam Build Fighters(Not exactly mecha, they control plastic models).
Edit: Also watch Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
Edit 2: Watch Aldnoah Zero too.
Edit 3: Robotics;Notes is good too, though i'm not sure if you would count it.
Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari, a little bit old and harem-heavy but still good.
Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto and Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince.
Knights and Magic is good if you like isekai too.

Zoids the older ones favorite tv show growing up and i really liked gundam 00 but there's quite a bit of drama in all gundam shows

why i dont see Macross and robothech franchise there? and Demonbane there is Raideen too and Dendo, Mazinger o boy there are a lot of reboot too of the early Super robot series

 

I would argue that IS has at best Mech(anized) Suits, rather than Mechs themselves.

Robotech ought to be literally the american name of Macross (possibly the first season , possibly more)

It somewhat actually depends in what circumstances you want to see the mechas. War ? Competition ? Development ?

 

Surprised no one's mentioned Escaflowne yet. If you liked Knight's & Magic, you might like Escaflowne. The mechas are slightly smaller and the series also involves a form of magic (more like mysticism). I'd say the only thing that would detract from it according to your criteria is its animation. It is mid-90's animation (moderate use of stock footage) though it is high-quality and quite well done.

 

Gundam 83. Old, but SO good. Stardust memories is by far incredibly intelligent...and the MC is a useless emo boy.

I can’t believ you haven’t watched Giant Robo...retro masterpiece.

Only watch if you’re into shouju anime. And don’t watch the bad movie, watch the series. And be prepared for sad ending...

 

Depending on which version/adaptation you are talking about, it can be considered either of them, for example: transformers godmaster (transformers super-god masterforce) is more of mecha than robot based

BTW, we don't talk about the movie...In fact, what movie
Escaflowne's fine for guys to watch, too. I mean, that's the entire reason why they included mechs. Bishounen and romance for the girls; mechs, blood and action for the guys. That was part of the marketing pitch, after all.
