Played a number of them about 8-10 years ago, when the English-language VN community was just starting out. Kind of dropped off since. Was also an amateur VN-creator for a time.

If you're thinking of converting webnovels to visual novels, two things to note:

    - Art is going to be the most expensive asset to create. Standards are getting higher, and good anime-style artists generally know how much they're worth on the net now. It also has the biggest impact on conversion rates, unfortunately, so good luck on balancing the budget for that.

    - There are several VN-making communities around that have platforms specific to VNs. Probably the largest one is centered around the Ren'Py engine and the LemmaSoft forums.

I've played absolutely zero VNs, tho, which are essentially the big umbrella that otome games fall under.

Thanks @Westeller for a template reply!

hmm... visual novels, or interactive fiction? i've played both, and to tell the truth, it's a bit difficult to find a visual novel that could truly i, especially if the ending choices are only "best end", "neutral end", and many, many "bad end".

For otome vn, try to look up "Cinders" and "7kpp". Cinders is a story focused vn with lots of personality choice for the PC and have a wonderfully diverse ending, while 7kpp focused more on stat building while still offering a lot of PC customization and endings (from skill sets, background, history, etc).

If you're looking for examples of VN with a fairly linear storyline, one of the best is "House in Fatamorgana" series. Their main selling point, aside from interesting plot, are their gorgeous graphics and immersive soundtrack. The PC is not customizable, and the ending choices are still limited to "good end" and "bad end", but i think it was really executed well.

Another good example is a short otome "Rose of Segunda", where the story is fairly linear, but because of a well-executed "flavoring lines" (PC's responses according to their respective 'personalites' while didn't actually have much effect to the the overall plot), the players could still feel quite satisfied by the limited choices that it offers.

Lel, i actually played quite a number of text-based interactive fiction on mobile by "Choice of Games" and "Hosted Games". They offer quite a large selection of genres from action, adventure, horror, to mysteries and drama, with a fairly cheap price. Some of their best titles are "Soldier of Infinity" series (historical war tactics/drama), "Choices of Robot" (drama), and "Tally Ho!" (comedy), all have excellent plot, writing, and wide choices for PC's customization.

Player character aka the MC. In COG games you can choose you MCs gender and sexual orientation most of the time

    Movies offers visuals and sounds.
    Novel offers POV and monologue.

With visual novel you can implement both appeal + interactivity. Tbh all games these days with immersive story are descended from early visual novel appeals.

Games tops immersion but visual novels are inexpensive and not too complex to make.
If you can later explore option to make better visual novel then do consider make a game.

But you seem to play Visual novels only released in Japan.
I am similar, I suck at learning languages. I have forgotten all the French I learnt in College
