Discussion What bookcover instantly makes you abandon a series?

whoever said dont judge a book from its cover obviously dont know what they are talking about every time i see a cover with a guy and multiple lolis or a guy tenderly caressing another guys cheek i dont even bother reading the summary i know what to expect.

text and no image. or images with hard to read text.

instant outs. as for the rest, I don't judge by the cover appearance, I walk along a shelf trailing my finger across the spines and pull out the one that I randomly stop on. has never failed me yet hahaha. the display books with the above criteria put me off a series if I didn't pull it out randomly first.

I've never read the book but this cover always gets me. Apparently its a good novel but it got low ratings cause of the old cover lol. Seems like they changed it to a more normal one some time ago tho

 

Too realistic women (and sometimes men). There’s just something off putting about it to me. I prefer no cover, chibis, or anime style women. Although overly erotic anime women is also off putting...

 

i loved that cover tbh. the thing that put me off it was that original translator stopped then pretty much unedited mtl took over for 10 chapters and dropped it and the next translator continued AFTER those mtl chapters

 

Covers with stolen characters or drawings...
Usually the content is as unoriginal as the cover in those cases.

Or a full cover generic illustration of a JP balloon boobed harem female character in a stupidly skimpy armor on a empty background, I have a hard time getting motivated to start reading thoses novels, as in mosts of thoses, the writer think that you can gloss over a botched up story if you put enough mindless fanservice...

I always laugh when I see Assassin's Creed characters used for wuxia book covers.

It's really sad when JP novels have big-boobed women wearing armor that covers absolutely nothing. I'd be more impressed if she wore a full-armor piece (like Albedo's suit).

Though the worst has to be covers with a protagonist that has a lecherous look on his face while his arms and body are surrounded by lolis.

 

Two guys in it. Also if it's just a colored background with text on top of it. If you know what I'm talking about without being a fan of this genre, we suffer the same pain....

 

I don't know about instantly abandon a series, but it kind of ticks me off when there are covers with female only character(s) on it, and the MC is male. Or when there are male only character(s) on it and the MC is female.

Look, you want to show off your harem/main leads, fine! But at least put the MC somewhere on the cover!

 

A cover that has one guy and a bunch of girls.

That shit got me speed clicking the 'back' button.

I wouldn't judge a book by that.

Honestly I do judge books by their cover a lot, but it's mostly in the opposite way. If there's no cover, it's bad, or whatever then it has a minor impact.

But if a book has a neat cover then that increases the chance of me reading immensely. For example:

And it works similarly for me when it comes to titles.

Mostly novels that i see a too "generic"(thoug hits hard sometimes to say whats generic) on my taste,or that the characters designs doesnt seem to even fit them,realistic ones its also a turn down for me but i still give a try sometimes often for KR/CN novels

I mostly judge because as soon i see an art or something that its supossed to go with the novel i also instantly assimilate them to when isee the character and picture them with the art, and for some reason the art does have some impact that gives more or less enjoyement when i read for some reason i cant really tell
