Yeah don't get me wrong, the story was great. Ending was sh*t.

Thanks, I'll check out the books by the author of the black magician trilogy and the Trudi Canavan books.

Well yeah. In fact, I think that that was what made me so entertained as I read the series. But you know an alive reformed slave master would have been better than the dead reformed slave master in my opinion.

That aside all of this talk about sh*t endings has reminded me of Night Ranger on Qidan. If you haven't read it, good for you avoid that novel like the plague. If you are reading it, I would drop it immediately. If you finished it like me, all I can say is I'm sorry.

The 1st book of David Weber's Honor Harrington series: On Basilisk Station
    - science fiction
    - the book isn't too thick
    - female MC is first time captaining her own military space ship (destroyer class) and is off to her first a solo assignment
    - strong willed, self motivated, compassionate, does what needs doing, honor to the navy
    - main villain is an aggressive foreign empire may make a play on the system the MC is guarding
    - side villain is an arrogant young master who she had met back in the academy, he tried to molest her, but she beat him up, they meet again
    - political intrigue with a small side issue with cultural contamination of xeno-natives
    - learn about warp technologies, jumping worm holes, and math for ship maneuvers in space battles

And if you like it, there are a couple of dozen more books in the series.

I’d say read Konosuba, an easy, fun read. The book was better than the anime and I got like 2 hours of sleep per night during school cause I couldn’t stop reading it. Someone meantioned Lord of Mysteries, it takes 60 odd chapters to get going and I don’t think it really went anywhere worth while.

So i would have recommended The Magician by Lev Grossman since it delves into deep personal themes alot and would have a plethora of things for you to write about. But it got made into a surprisingly not bad TV Show... so tell your teacher they suck for that last restriction and they are missing out.

    2. Dawn of Wonder by Jonathan Renshaw.
Again a very good book with alot of things that you could pick apart and write about. Hell, i could write a report on just its first part and id have enough to write 10 reports if i wished.
That being said... it is a long book. 30 hour listen, 712 pages in kindle. It isn't short.

    3. Replay by Ken Grimwood
A book that will make you stop and think by the end of it. This novel explores the themes of growth and change very well and would give you so much to write about.

The Emperor's Soul by Brandon Sanderson: it's good, short and won a Hugo Award for best novella.

Nahhh it won't violate the rule

The whole premise of not in the movie is so you won't cheat by watching the movie. It's not in the movie yet.

But in my opinion, you can't dig deep from Artemis fowl. If you are looking for books, you should read the Golden compass series. Just read the entire 3 books and discuss the last.

The book deals with religions, souls and reincarnation. Should be an interesting book to discuss.

Second best would be the Narnia, second book from last. That book discuss the author perspectives on religions.

Religion is fun. As an atheist myself, I've found it a rather interesting concept to study and talk about.

    His Dark Materials
    aka: the Golden Compass trilogy

If you limit it to one go with the Amber Spyglass.
If your teacher is the ""You need JESUS!" type" it may just cause her to have a fit.

Zombie Games might be good. It's a newer series that has the feel of a light novel but is an actual published in America series of books.
Zombie Games is written by Kristen Middleton who is a New York Times bestselling author.

Shadow of the Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafon.
This book is my most favorite piece of literature and i really can't recommend it enough!
I don't want to spoil this masterpiece, but suffice to say that the magical realism of the book puts it above and beyond other works of fiction imo.
