First Batoto now D Addicts. Fans who don't go legal risk losing decades of hard work. https://www.giftedones.net/d-addicts-status/ It is very naive to think things will last forever when it is not sustainable financially. The new owner initially shutdown the subtitles section for legal reasons which makes sense. Kiss whatever and other pirate websites would have had no way to get subtitles haha https://www.viki.com/ https://subtitle.vlive.tv/
in over a decade of reading manga and novels alike, like a leech... I never heard of D Addict... I must be living under the rock...
Yeah the owner sold it and it was almost shutdown. Community members were unhappy that the new owner started a blog to earn ad revenue and had blog posts about technology and other stuff. I am not surprised, given the traffic on such websites, if they tried to make it a business, it would have worked. But people treat money like the plague but they still need it. Hosting isn't free. There is a limit to the amount of time you can get from volunteers. Volunteers also leave for a stable job. D addicts could have become the next viki. Sadly, conglomerates like NAVER's Vlive are going to replace fansubs. Not everyone is smart like the owner of J novel, who knows that making money is not bad. It guarantees longevity
If you have watched any Japanese doramas or even Korean dramas pre- viki or dramafever or even bought DVDs, it most likely came from D addicts. Kiss whatever and other pirate websites take subtitles from there even Dramafever got their initial Korean subtitles from there
Hahaha partially gloating partially sad. I did start a thread there trying to get started in fansubs and was ignored. It is filled with deluded people. They have delusions of grandeur. The elitism there is ridiculous
So... It's basically Batoto/MangaDex but in Drama platforms? Still, the PR-fu of admins and mods there must be weak. I can understand them begging for few bucks to keep the boat afloat. If they only cushioned the backlash by giving community members the reason in post why they did so. It would've been not that worse enough. Maintaining the custom domain cost a few bucks, I was expecting the community members there have an understanding mind.... Well, they have been conditioned to get them stuffs for free. So seeing admins there begging for money to keep the boat afloat is scummy in their eyes? IDK mate.
