Do people like to create new drama for little things?

I'm an oldschooler , anything that requires a signup is crap.

I'd much prefer not to have any accounts on internet, but they always ask you to sign up. Annoying.
Novel updates tho, I need the account for posting reviews(mainly to keep record).

 

Quite a few of the novels on WuxiaWorld tend to update regularly so it's not exactly appealing.

 

TBH, I'm mostly annoyed there wasn't a countdown warning ahead of time. I hadn't read the changes section and was blindsided by the 50 lockout as my first sign of this change. So I came here to figure out what's going on and found this thread. A "You have 20/10 free chapters left" pop up would have been nice.

Also, wouldn't anyone commenting have had an account to comment with?

Anyway, I think it's an unusual choice and could have been better implemented..but ultimately I don't see much reason to kick up a fuss or criticize it. My only real issue is that I'm not always on a system I want to log into things with and when that happens I'd have to deal with 50 chapter limit.

Sadly, others have attached their own agenda to the thread.
I should know, for some reason, any novel that gets dropped by any translator is my fault according to some people.
I seem to have powers to control translators.
I am even envious of the powers they claim, I possess .

Thank you for personally clarifying this issue. May I suggest adding this kind of explanation to pop up register request? For people like me that are little tiny bit paranoid and tend to stand away from suspicious and unexpected things. I read your post on WW about changes and I didn't notice 50 chapters limit for lurkers. So register pop up was a total surprise. My next thought was 'why do I need to register?'. I and other users can guess you reasons but unless confirmed it will remain a guess. I found your explanation about ads and bot traffic reasonable and more far convincing than polite pop up request to register.
I'm like 80% convinced will you post the rest of reasons?

 

the post made was reason enough, not everything is for us to know. and a feature to request signup is just that, thus nothing will be added to it to "explain" why its necessary to register. its not professional and is just considered bloat to web design to add lots of random things to a simple feature designed to do a single task.

Seriously, I can't imagine Facebook explaining about ads and all those stuff to random visitors when asking them to login/register.

 

I don't really have a clue how this kind of topic reached 7 pages... I guess anything with WW or QI in it will naturally get lots of pages. *shrugs*

In any case, I'm too lazy to read them all, so I'm just gonna comment on it in a more generic aspect.

For me to sign up to a site, it's generally because I want to do something in the site that needs signing up... Like, I'm reading free comics at Lezhin, but to do that I needed to sign up, so sign up I did.

In some other sites I wanted to comment on chapters, so I signed up to comment (only if they don't use wordpress default comment system nor disqus though).

For WW it wouldn't be much different (I don't read their stories though, since they don't translate the kind of thing I like to read), if I had to sign up to read there, I would... Just sign up? Not like it's hard.

 

The sad thing is that this reading post & replying, cost more time than registering an WW account & reading a couple of chapters. xD

It's not that those 50 chapters are day turn paid immediately after you register, heck you get even more free benefits such as an bookmark to keep track for you on the site, even notifications for new chapters all for free etc. If you were truly forced you still wouldn't really made a loss as you control what info/data you use to sign up. Nothing to be suspicious off & you can probably request delete account if you truly don't like being registered after trying it. I kind of wish you had a deactivate/delete your account & 2 factor authentication option or so if you had stuff purchased it's more safer as some people spent a lot. *runs to WW to suggest this feedback*

Btw this was meant for those meant with bad intentions, trying to stirr up others unnecessarily. I get that some people share devices/don't like or maybe aren't allowed to sign in/register due privacy/security issues, not blaming you for being worried/upset if you suddenly couldn't got that message without a warning like usual.
