His master was poisoned by someone if I remember correctly, and he was next in line to become the sect master. Another disciple from the same sect wants to take the position, so he framed MC for murdering his own master. MC was killed by his best friend from another sect in a battle. After rebirth, he became a regular disciple and met ML again. ML was extremely distraught after the death of MC.
