It's just subverting expectation. In many jrpg games, slimes, along with goblins, are the weakest trash mob. And what did writers do? Turn the weakest mob to absolute monsters.
tbh I kinda glad slime become more important as day pass even on early classic old rpg slime is really important~ how you can lvl up if you not beat those weak creatures? other monster is damn too strong for hero who only carry a stick ya know~ even on late game you can get bucnh of great exp if can beat gold slime, saving lot of time and those legendary slick metal slime is just so awesome! missssssssssss...... fakku also on Ragnarok Online poring da slime is great mascot! cute creature for hat accessory beside popo hat actually slime kinda cute it goes boing boing like part of women body! for loner adventure if you have no chance to touch that part you may touch regular slime just for da feeling...... btw slime actually nightmare for physical class ya know~ only magic work well for slime
Yep, yep. I’m surprised you didn’t post a slime cat girl gif... And are you really saying slimes are autonomous boobies?!
I read somewhere that old slimes were actually really OP. (As in, if you meet one, better just give up, 90+% you die) When exactly that was the norm, I don't know. 1980s? Earlier? But if it's true you could say that they aren't being made stronger, but that they are making a comeback. And what someone else said in this thread got me thinking. If slimes have no established lore yet, unlike most other fantasy creatures, does that mean it is the monster created in our time? That's pretty cool. I've seen some silly articles analyzing when certain monsters are popular, what it means (specifically about vampires vs werewolves). I wonder what they would say about slimes... (P.S. The Blob is/was OP and scary as hell)
Mate you keep mentioning that as if it is the worst thing There are lots of far scarier slimes, for example This one called Erubetie, pretty yes but way scarier than she looks
Slime = Typical part of RPGs and are generally a distinguishing trait in isekai fantasy world's. So the trope goes on...
This thread just reminds me of either a manga or webnovel where the fl leveled up to something like 300 just by killing slimes. Also, Slime Rancher, game where you can breed super cute slimes. So worth it
slimes... peerless white emperor's favorite monster... lol anyways.. slime lol.. the fantasy writers' fave monster i guess? coz they can have any type of attributes and their sizes can vary too! they're very versatile... ahh! and they're liquid-like(semi-liquid? jelly?) too.. liquid.. can be used in many *cough* ways..
The remake of the Blob was scary...terrifying when I was little. When the trope, oh when the tropes, oh when the tropes keep marching on... https://www.novelupdates.com/series...300-years-i-became-the-max-level-unknowingly/ Ecchi!!!
I imagine Metallic Slimes as non-magnetic (There are some metals that aren't affected by magnets you know) I'd think magnets would affect an Iron Slime though and other magnetic metals that slime consist of. Makes me think of a Neodymium Slime. Slimes are interesting to a degree, do they have a core, do they evolve, do they not have a core, are they acidic, are they parasitic, can they mimic, how to do they perceive. The more I think about it, the longer the slime is alive the stronger or more dangerous it should be. They're a universal tool that is a monster. Though they are basically fungi or mold so..... so I consider them related to a certain Sci-Fi creature in the Metroid Franchise. The X-Parasite. Get ready to be wiped out by the Slime's most dangerous cousin~
Slime was never weak. There wasn't even versatile as people believe nowadays. It's only because of Jrpg culture that the definition of slime started to change and became more popular. I think it was the first Dragon Quest that started the weak slime trend. Slowly with time, they became more versatile as a concept. One of my favorite slime (queen) can make a hydrogen bomb with part of her body
I remember that. I also recall that she's essentially an Eco-Terrorist that hates pollution. Ironic considering nuclear bombs are pollutants.
