I've come to the understanding that One Piece will never finish... they'll find new ways to stick in more filler. Okay, fine fine fine. Maybe it'll finish when I'm like... 90ish? Even when the story ends all they gotta do is "Remaster it" in Ultra Xfinity Definition or whatever is after blue ray. Then sell the spin-offs and the side character stories. Vivi's Exciting day life. Dugong's Great Escape! Not So Little Mermaid's Dairy! What else? Uhhh... Marine Garrison 5832's Amazonia's Wrong Shipment!
I read and watched both and many of the movies. Then I stopped roughly 2-3 years ago. Before my hiatus, I've watched and rewatched many episodes multiple times.
You last that long before dropping the anime, as for me I dropped the anime after the Marineford Arc and just stick to manga.
While the manga is great, I really feel the sounds/music/voice and colors kept me entertained enough to sit through the fillers. That is until the big momma arc. I don't understand why, but this arc is boring for me. I've just about moved back into novels and games now. Haven't really watched many animes in recent times.
one piece do have some fillers. . . those new year or the likes events, but welp not even 30 episodes in the whole current number of episodes. . . unlike that ahem* ninja. . . .
I stopped watching and reading One Piece on the new world arc. IDK just wasn't the same for me i guess.
Probably depends on how many mangaka a drawing/ creating are certain manga. If only 1-2 “main” artists- then the manga will probably be finished once one of them passes away or has a real life issue. Mangakas are human... but then again take those western comics- they’ve been going on for awhile too. But just the artists change. Ok, I’m all for “pretty” pictures, but really if something happened to Yoshiki Nakamura and some other person took over her work- I’d drop it, as I really like her original style and I doubt that another artist could fill in her shoes.
I mean, Hajime No Ippo has been running since 1989 and seems it will never end. As for One Piece popularity, Japan has a fascination with it the same way they do Dragon Quest.
the main plot is at least progessing in those series, though at snail space, i think these two series will never end though: 1. jojo: no reason for it to end, and it will be passed on to the next mangaka. 2. dragon ball: indefinite powerups, after super saiayan god, we might get super saiyan god II, super saiyan god III, super saiyan creator, etc. etc. akira toriyama could just leave the story to his artist after he retires. maybe the verse won't end, but the story of finding one piece will likely end in less than 10 years. luffy's clearly getting close to end game both story-wise and power wise. one piece also hasn't gotten any non-oneshot spin-offs , so the verse ending is an actual possibility if oda wants it to end. what?
You know how Japanese animation just loves to include Amazon in some way or form? Well, that'd be a side story where Amazon sends the wrong package and the entire Marine Garrison gets Tutus or some other embarrassing outfit. Then all their uniforms get damaged or something so they wear that instead of being naked. It's stupid filler content.
